I am thrilled to present another of my test knitters, who is also a patron; Margot with her stunning Kanaye! The yarns she chose were a combination of some cones bought from the Holst Garn factory: Titicaca and Supersoft. Margot, aka Margot1968 on Ravelry, writes on her project page: “I think it’s about time I am going to give this yarn a purpose. Despite the boring colour I think this will go well as a layering piece.”
The vest is knitted in size M/L with the pattern gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows in Stockinette stitch using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle measuring 10 cm/4” square after blocking.
Margot did some minor modifications to the armholes and the collar in addition to adding buttons plus a Norwegian clasp on the inside of the collar. Above you can see her ingenious button placements!
On her project page you can also read: “I have never knitted tucks before, so I can also learn something new. That’s one of the things I love about test knitting: learning new skills. Kanaye is Japanese for the zealous one. It has an interesting construction.
So…. ready, set, knit!” Thank you so much for this and these stunning photos, Margot!
Here is my introduction to the pattern: Tucks, reverse stockinette stitch and I-cords adorn this vest that is knitted sideways with a large garter stitch collar and a hem. Named Kanaye – Japanese for the zealous one – as the vest with its waterfall fronts can be used as a shawl or even upside down and closed with a shawl pin. The textured vest is worked in two parts and joined at the center back with a decorative I-cord on top. Kanaye is knitted in the airy Ask from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.
The Kanaye pattern is available in sizes XS/S to 5XL in Norwegian and English from my Ravelry store. Yarn kits are also available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.
