On Tuesday I went to the Oslo Design Fair to meet yarn suppliers, agents, and designers as well as seeing what was new. To sum up the news; Mohair is still very much in fashion. Burgundy, blues and browns are the most popular colours. Bling yarn in metal colours or with beads or sequins were spotted on many stands. Luxurious fibers such as cashmere in different thickness are now easier to find. The photo above from the Swiss Lang Yarns illustrated several of these news, in my opinion.
Hand knitted “Glittergenser” with brocade skirts (and bag) designed by Tine Solheim, displayed at the Knit Norway stand, who is the agent for the Katia yarn. The pullover is knitted in Katia Gatsby in a mixed fibre quality consisting of 77% viscose and can be ordered knitted up together with the skirts or as a Norwegian pattern with yarn directly from Tine Solheim.
Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk had made a thicker sock yarn with a 5 mm/US 8 recommended needle size called Tundra Sokkegarn.
They also had 25 new colours in their Luna yarn, a thicker lambswool yarn.
Here are sample garments knitted in Lana Grossa yarn.
New designs from Sandnes Garn; Emerson Dress knitted in Sunday and Tynn Silk Mohair held together.
Colourful mittens displayed at Strikkefeber, know for their large selection of pastel and candy coloured yarns.
New Rowan colours in popular yarns such as Rowan Felted Tweed, Kidsilk Haze, Tweed Haze and Kid Classic.
Norwegian Viking Garn has a new collection in Snorre chunky yarn by Sofie Karlstad, above is a photo of the samples with the catalogue at the bottom. Check out the pink showstopper: Honningsvåg Genser & Hals (Cowl).
One of the many reasons I had to visit the fair was that artist & scarf designer Therese Enger was there. I just love her scarves made from her paintings and printed on either silk or a wool and silk mixture! Yes, I am the owner of three of those now. Her new “bunad”/national costume accessories collection with scarf decorated hairbands and silk scarves in the frame.
For the first time at Oslo Design Fair, was vendor Ukrainian Pavilion representing Ukrainian interior designers.
I was fascinated by the colourful glas mushroom lamps and crystal from Aumaison.dk. During the day, I met a number of people I know and I had a brilliant day!
