Trådfest at Oslo Met 2026

Here is my report from the Trådfest/Thread party at Oslo Met (-ropolitan University), organised by Institutt for Estetiske fag, at the beginning of July where I taught two workshops. Just as last year, I was given a table in their inspiring Craft Room where the looms and the resulting woven tapestries are hung. Oslo Met wanted to offer available yarn and needles for the participants, hence I was asked what I needed. I chose to order Sol Lambswool yarn by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in natural colours together with suitable circular knitting needles in size 4 mm/US 6 for both my Cable Knitting for beginners and Lace Knitting for beginners.

Divided by bookshelves at the next table there was a popular workshop in Bead Weaving with Seed Beads. I displayed a number of my designs, magazines with my designs and a selection of swatches.

In addition there were workshops in crocheting, felting, frame weaving, different types of embroidery, bobbin lace and spinning (including nettle fibers!). All workshops were free, but you needed to sign on beforehand to secure a place. In addition there were demonstrations and knitting help desks plus activities for children.

Coffee, tea, fruit, cake and “pøffel”(that is the odd combination of a hot dog in a waffle; “pølse” and “vaffel” in one hence “pøffel”. Yet another reason so many people in all ages turned up every day of the festival with a tightly packed program from Tuesday 30th of June to Saturday 4th of July! I met a lot of keen knitters and the fabulous Oslo Met teachers & students and had two wonderful days! Thank you to all!
