Laplace Knitted by Elsook

Let me introduce you to Els from the Netherlands, aka Elsook on Ravelry, who test knitted my Laplace pants back in 2022 in Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia Organic Merino in size S/M.

She used the recommended 3.75 mm/US 5 needle to obtain the 24 stitches and 34 rows in stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4” square. The result is fabulous!

On her project page, Els writes: “When you are going to make these pants, you are in for a nice relaxing knit. The side panels are easy to memorise and make it easy to keep track of your progress. I made the legs a bit shorter, but could have made them an extra 5 cm shorter to have them just above my ankle. Maybe next one?”

During the second month of knitting Els went on a hiking trip : “I am so lucky! We are hiking from hut to hut in Austria. It is such an amazing scenery, and then during a well deserved break, I get to do a bit of extreme knitting. Gorgeous mountains, glaciers, lakes, and sweet travel companions. Plus some knitting in the sun.” Below you see her at the extreme knitting height of 2900 m/9514 feet! I am so impressed!I am so thrilled with her summing up of the project: “A gorgeous pair of trousers. It took again longer than expected. There is a lot unexpected going on. But these trousers are great and finished.”Laplace is worked flat in four pieces for the ultimate fit; two for each leg, then seamed before the waistband is worked like a double hem in the round. Elastic is placed inside the hem before it is closed and bound off. Els writes about the seaming too: “Sewing up this piece was quite a job for me. I used the crochethook for a slipstitch seam. First time for me, and a lot of work but a fine result.” She ends: “I really wanted to have a perfect fit between the front and the back. I must say I am proud at the end result.” Thank you ever so much for test knitting these trousers for me and for the wonderful photos, Els!

The Laplace pattern comes graded in sizes XS (S/M, L/XL, 2XL/3XL, 4XL, 5XL) and is available in English and Norwegian from Ravelry and LoveCrafts.
