The next summer knits I wanted to share with you is my dress Osku and the matching cowl Piran worked in Elsebeth Lavold’s Silky Wool using a 4 mm/US 6 needle from 2023. Here is my introduction to the pattern: Named Osku old Irish for friend is this relaxed dress adorned with large sculptural cables and crowned by an I-cord. The sleeves are all in stockinette stitch to allow the cables to stand out and are worked top down. While the body is worked bottom up in the round – with shaping for the hips and bust – to the armholes, then back and forth with only the shoulders sewn together. Osku is knitted in the divine Silky Wool by Elsebeth Lavold and can be worn together with the matching Cowl; Piran.
The dress is graded to fit sizes XS/S to 5XL, but I have joined the smaller sizes as there is a lot of positive ease. The bust circumference is from 108.5 to cm/42.75 to 174 cm/68.5 inches. My husband photographed me wearing the smallest size with 20.5 cm/8 inches positive ease.
The dress body is worked in the round from the bottom and up. While the sleeves are worked top down. Only the shoulders are seamed together. Named Piran Celtic for affection is this cowl adorned with large sculptural cables, double seed stitch and crowned by an I-cord. The cables are worked back and forth, then grafted together before stitches are picked up and knitted in the round in double seed stitch. Piran is knitted in the divine Silky Wool by Elsebeth Lavold and can be worn together with the matching dress; Osku.
The cowl is worked in two parts; the bottom cable that is worked back and forth and grafted together, before stitches are picked up and the remaining part is worked in the round with shaping. Above you can see a detailed photo of the back with the cable joint. Piran is graded in sizes S to XL with a bottom circumference of 90 to 120 cm/35.5 to 47.25 inches and a top circumference of 61 to 65 cm/24 to 25.5 inches.
Both Osku and Piran are worked with a 22 stitches and 30 rows gauge in Stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4 inches square after blocking.
Emmalin is wearing the Osku dress in size XS/S with 25.5 cm/10 inches positive ease.
