Moia and Benete Patterns Released

This weekend is the annual NSF – Norsk Strikkeforbund/Norwegian Knitting Association – meeting and I am in Bergen, ready for the pattern launches of both Moia Jacket and Benete Scarf. The patterns are available in both English and Norwegian in my Ravelry Store.

Moia is old Danish for mother, fitting for this long straight jacket that folds around you like an embrace with a wide reversible cable collar paired with long cuffs. The main part of the jacket is knitted in stockinette stitch to allow the cable pattern to shine. Choose if you want to wear the collar overlapped or as a shawl collar with the opposite side out and close it with a belt or shawl pin. For a larger collar make the matching scarf Benete. Moia is knitted in the soft, chainette Woolfolk Får yarn.

Needles: 2 sets 4.5 mm/US 7 circular needle (80 cm/32″, extra set for hem and belt). Two 4.5 mm/US 7 DPNs for belt loops. Adjust needle size as needed to match gauge.

Notions: Stitch markers (removable), stitch holders, cable needle (cn) and yarn needle.

Gauge: 19 sts and 28 rows in St st using 4.5 mm/US 7 needle measures 10 cm/4″ square after blocking. 22 sts in Cable using 4.5 mm/US 7 needle measures 8.5 cm/2.25″ across after blocking.

Notes: The jacket is worked in pieces and seamed. The collar is cast on separately and joined with each front after the hem. At the end the back neck part of the collar is worked, then joined at center back and seamed into place. The belt is worked like the hem and bound off at the joining row. The belt loops are short I-cords that are sewn into the seams. A circular needle is used due to the large stitch number.

Named Benete, an old Danish name short for Benedikte, is this reversible cabled scarf. Wear it as a scarf, a shawl or together with the matching jacket Moia to create a second collar. Benete is knitted in the soft, chainette Woolfolk Får yarn.
