Photoshoot at Ensjø Studio: Celie

The next new design made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, I want to show you is the dress Celie. The oversized long dress looked magnificent on model Emmalin Williams, with make-up & hair styling by Janne Skarpeid Hermansen and earrings by Kaja Gjedebo Design. Photographer Wenche Hoel-Knai brilliantly captured Emmalin – 170 cm/5’7” tall – wearing size small with 37 cm/14.5” positive ease. I styled the dress with black boots and wanted the it photographed with and without a belt.

Named Celie, of Greenlandic decent, is this oversized long dress with dropped shoulders and vents. A check pattern covers the dress to give it texture except for the sides which has a stripe of stockinette stitch. Celie is worked in the round on the middle part and then back and forth again on the shoulders, for the armholes. The sleeves are worked top down. The dress ends in a double collar, crowned by an I-cord the check pattern low collar rises. Celie is knitted in the airy Ask by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

The dress is worked from the bottom up in two pieces to the end of the vents, then joined and worked in the round to the sleeve opening. The remaining is worked back and forth to the shoulders. Only the shoulders are seamed together to give the dress a bit of structure. The sleeves are worked top down in the round. The I-cord is worked before the collar that also ends in an I-cord.

My sample knitter Nadja made Celie using 3.5 mm/US 4 needle with a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4” square after blocking. The pattern has been graded in sizes XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 115 to 185 cm/45.25 to 72.75″.

The yarn kit with either English or Norwegian pattern is available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, while the individual pattern will be test knitted in my Ravelry group, beginning 8th of May before the pattern is released.
