Yua Cowl 2

The idea for making a second Yua Cowl sample – one that I could keep straight away – came while I was filming the digital Advanced Cables Course for School of SweetGeorgia in Vancouver last September. I was thrilled when Founder + Creative Director Felicia Lo granted my wish.

I knew I wanted a medium blue of their Merino Worsted (100% easy-care merino wool, 182 m/200 yards, 115 g) so Education Program Coordinator Greta Cornejo took me yarn hunting in their studio as the yarn was still in boxes after the Knit City Vancouver event. Luckily, she found 3 skeins in Summer Sky that was a gorgeous colour and just what I had in mind.

The Yua Cowl was a perfect project for knitting on the flight home from Vancouver last year. I knitted the Yua Cowl using a 4.5 mm/US 9 needle and a 20 stitches and 28 rows gauge in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4 inches square after blocking.

Here is my introduction to the pattern: Yua, which is Japanese for “bound by love and affection”, is a reversible cowl with staghorn cables worked in ribbing with garter stitch for contrast and a double-knit band for a neat edge. Wear this cowl once around your neck as a knitted statement or twice for warmth.
