Aibell Knitted by Dawn Gayer

Next out in the series knitted by, is sample knitter & patron Dawn Gayer, aka Dawnadair on Ravelry, who made this fabulous Aibell dress in size S. She knitted it in Colourmart 12/29NM heavy dk wt extra fine merino in the gorgeous Emperor shade using a 3 mm/US 2.5 and 3.5 mm/US 4 needle. Unfortunately, the yarn has been discontinued, but you will find a number of other yarns with the same gauge of 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch, after blocking measures 10 cm/4” square.

Dawn writes on her project page on Ravelry: “In order to minimize the balloon look to suit my short frame, I started with size M cast on and then increased to the number of stitches for size S after the ribbing, and I am planning to continue with size S.”

In addition, she shortened the length of the ribbing, stockinette stitch part and cable part. Dawn ends with: “This pattern is very versatile. I’m not sure which way I will like to wear it best. I guess it will depend on my mood! Another fabulous and unique pattern from Linda Marveng!”. I am ever so chuffed to hear it! Thank you so much, dear Dawn!

Here is my introduction to the Aibell pattern: Named after the Celtic Goddess of Munster who had a magical harp in her possession is this ballon shaped dress where the shaping is done by the cables. The a-line created by the cables is mirrored on the body. The front has Right cables beginning at hip one at a time, while the back has Left cables. A cowl makes a high cabled collar or a belt. Wear it loose hanging down, slightly pulled up or as a tunic with the rib turned.

The Aibell pattern is available in sizes XS to 2XL, with a bust circumference of 86 to 122 cm/33.75 to 48”, in both English and Norwegian on Ravelry. Yarn kits with the sample yarn Tinde pelsullgarn are available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.
