Photoshoot at Bøler Church: Brewster Cardigan

The time has come to show you the marvellous photos we took at the photoshoot at Bøler Kirke/Church in Oslo last October. The first series of photos out are of the Brewster Cardigan. We started photographing outside in the courtyard next to the chapel due to the  funeral in the main church hall, so we would be out of sight as agreed with the parish priest Dag Auli who unlocked all doors and gave us close to unlimited access to the church.  The next backdrop we choose was the entrance to the church hall with its high ceilings, half concrete walls and large windows, by HBA Architects. Above is the gorgeous Emma Ross, with hair & makeup by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wearing Brewster Cardigan captured by Eivind Røhne. It is one of my favourite shots from the photoshoot.

I chose to style the cardigan with black pencil trousers and those magnificent sculptural high heels by Danish designer Camilla Skovgaard. The Brewster Cardigan was initially made for Wool Studio 2016 an off-spring of the knit.wear magazine and published in December 2016. The pattern rights reverted to me in December 2017, hence I needed to take new photos for the release of the pattern in my Ravelry Store.

Reversible sand cables, adorn the generous loop cowl as well as the center of the back and the sleeves of this straight cardigan. The draped loop cowl creates the unusual captivating silhouette. A fake garter stitch seam adds a bit of structure to this cardigan. The loop cowl can be worn loose, folded once behind the neck or twice in front or three times around the neck in a ballerina style.

The cardigan is knitted in Valley Yarns Northfield (70% Merino, 20% Baby Alpaca, 10% Silk, 50 gram, 113 meters/124 yards). Sample is knitted in Haze 14. Cardigan shown measures 96.5 cm/40″; modeled with 15.5 cm/6″ of positive ease. It is available in sizes XS to 2XL with a bust circumference of 89 to 136 cm/35 to 53.5″.

Brewster Cardigan is knitted by me using 4 mm/US 6 needles with a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows in stocking stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

Above you see the cowl worn three times around the neck, pulling the cardigan together into a ballerina wrap style. The body is worked back and forth in one piece to the armholes and then the fronts and back are worked separately. The sleeves are worked in the round, with the sleeve cap worked flat. The loop cowl is worked in two parts, with 3 pattern repeats, and is joined with a 3-needle bind off at one end and a mattress stitch seam at the other after it has been attached around the opening with extra length hanging loose.

Emma’s wonderful hair adds a splash of colour to these grey tone photos. The English pattern is available on Ravelry and on Loveknitting while the Norwegian pattern will be published in the special issue Familien Strikk magazine out in March. Behind the Scenes: Photoshoot at Bøler Church

Our photoshoot day, last Wednesday, had a grey start but it cleared and the sun came out in the afternoon. Michael and I picked up the gorgeous model Emma Ross – Em for short – at her hotel in Oslo, before we drove to Bøler suburb and the church. Em flew in from Manchester in the United Kingdom the day before and we were excited to meet her. Bøler Kirke is a community church by HBA Arkitekter completed in 2011. See more photos here:  www.bygg.no. Photographer Eivind Røhne came as we were unpacking the car and meet the parish priest Dag Auli. We were given not only one room for lunch and our luggage but also a separate one for makeup with even larger windows towards the forest. We were given access to every part of the church, except for the Church Hall during the funeral at midday and given a tour of the church. Eivind and I did go all 121 steps to the top of the Bell Tower and had a lovely view of the nearby lake Østensjøvannet, but the platform at the top was tiny and the long drop to the ground made us both dizzy. The makeup & hair artist Sissel Fylling with her assistant Nora arrived and were introduced to Em. Yes, she needed a haircut (read: as we have come to expect) and we did not need to convince Em to accept. While Sissel and Nora set to work on Em’s hair and then makeup, I prepared the rail with the clothes and went on another tour with Eivind & Michael to locate locations. There were 3 backdrops we immediately wanted: The entrance area to the Church hall with its light concrete walls, the rusty cor-ten wall panel and the chapel courtyard. Michael has taken all these wonderful photos. Above is the entrance area and you see Sissel and me at work, while Em is checking out the biblical text written about the entrance to the Church Hall. She is wearing 1 of the 7 new designs, a long cardigan made in the lovely Di Gilpin’s Lalland Lambswool yarn with a unique twist.

Jewellery designer Kaja Gjedebo who lives at Bøler, came on her bicycle with a large selection for me to choose from. Yes, I did pick some of her new statement pieces and some old favourites. Kaja knows this community church well and could tell us about some of the events that take place here. It is one of the few churches with a licence to serve alcohol in connection with the concerts and other events organised at the church. Above you see Em covered in a felted wooly blanket (see Røros Tweed) to keep warm, as Eivind is checking the light and his flash. Yes, we have several of those blankets. Under she is wearing 1 of 3 designs that needed new photos: Autumn Symphony knitted in Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, Ask-Hifa 2. On our agenda was to photograph a total of 10 garments during the day.Here you see Eivind in action photographing 1 of the 4 new designs for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in the courtyard next to the chapel. Yes, it was a cold day so Em did want that blanket. We started by photographing here as the funeral was going ahead in the Church Hall. After photographing the 4 garments made for Hillesvåg, we needed to get warm and decided to have lunch. I had checked catering but since we were only 7, we bought lunch from a coffee shop in the city center and brought a selections of drinks & fruit with us. As always we had plenty of fun and discussed postures for Em to test out. Both Sissel and I popped into a number of Eivind’s shoots to correct or adjust her hair, makeup or outfit. I love this shoot of Eivind explaining. Em is wearing the Bowery Tunic, one of the designs returned from Interweave, I had to photograph again before I can release it with new photos after the rights have reverted to me. The design was made for knit.wear Spring/Summer 2017. The high ceiling, the light concrete and the full height windows gave this entrance area a sacral light. The impressive lighting is even found in the corridor at the side of the Church Hall as well as inside the Hall itself.

I also wanted to show you half of the church seen from the car park towards the chapel and the courtyard behind it. The tower is the Light Tower and not the Bell Tower which is at the opposite end. We are standing in front of the opposite rusty cor-ten wall panel with the name carved into it. This is also were we ended our photoshoot. The priest came in and asked how it was going on all our locations. We had a brilliant day! Thank you! Now, I am trying to choose photos from Eivind’s selection and trying to finish those patterns…

Embrae Cardigan Pattern Released

Today, I am at Bøler Kirke/ Church in Oslo having my next photoshoot. I am very excited and cannot wait to see my new designs come alive. But I will tell you a lot more about that later. In the meantime, here is another pattern I have released in English on Ravelry and on Loveknitting after a test knit in my group: Embrae. You can see longer versions, one version with beads and many versions in different colours on the pattern page on Ravelry. The sample knitted in the gorgeous hand dyed Anzula, Squishy was brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne worn by Silje Andresen/Team Models with hair and makeup by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design at the National Museum – Architecture. Here is my introduction to the pattern:  Embrae, a fitted cardigan with a lace collar, is like a flowery embrace. A lacy leaf pattern adorns the sleeves and the back of the cardigan. The lattice at the center of the lace pattern continues on each side of it and covers the collar. The collar can be worn flat or overlapping and pinned together or folded.

Familien Strikk 2017

The special magazine Familien Strikk is out for sale here in Norway. I am delighted to have 4 patterns included in the magazine and a small photo of the back of the Irina Pullover on the cover. It is a very popular annual magazine, with a large number of patterns: 61 patterns from Norwegian designers, some translated patterns and some from different yarn producers. All my designs: Irina Pullover, Biondo, Embrae and Harding Cardigan were brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne, modelled by Silje Andresen/Team Models with hair & makeup by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design at the National Museum – Architecture in November last year. The long stunning skirt worn together with Irina Pullover and Biondo is by Judith Bech Design.Irina Pullover (made for knit.wear Spring/Summer 2016, but the rights have reverted back to me now) Named after the beautiful Russian ballerina Irina Baronova, a fitted pullover with elegant cables swooning across it in panels with garter stitch dividers for shaping. Timeless, knitted in the round from the bottom up to the armholes then flat to soft square neckline and shoulders. The sleeves are also knitted in the round, long to adorn the hands and set-in. A divine sky blue color, and luscious texture was made by combining Rowan Rowan Felted Tweed with Rowan Kidsilk Haze.

Biondo – Italian for blond – scarf is reversible with a twisted stitch as a divider between each of the three cables. The stitch also work as a folding line, hence emphasises the more relaxed alternate side. The scarf is knitted in a divine silk and alpaca mixture for that lovely feel and sheen, Du Store Alpakka Baby Silk.Embrae, a fitted cardigan with a lace collar, is like a flowery embrace. The English pattern is currently under test knitting in my Ravelry group and will be released as soon as it is over.Harding Cardigan: An allover telescope lattice gives this long, straight cardigan a textural feel. A cabled rib-cord collar adds a modern look to the Harding Cardigan. Wear it open or close it with a shawl pin or belt. The English pattern was first published in Interweave Knits Summer 2016. I suggested the rustic Brooklyn Tweed Shelter and editor Meghan Babin agreed with my choice and suggested the shade Foothills.

Gaylia Pattern Released

The test knitting of Gaylia is coming to an end and I am very pleased to release the English pattern, available on Ravelry and on Loveknitting. The Norwegian pattern was published in the special magazine Familien Kreativ in March. The pullover was modelled by the beautiful Silje Andresen/Team Models, with hair and make-up by Sissel Fylling, and perfectly captured by photographer Eivind Røhne at at the National Museum – Architecture in Oslo at the end of November. Here is my introduction to the pattern. A textural cross cable adorns this a-line sweater with vents. The cable ends in two smaller cables that continue along each side of the v-neck. A check pattern that resembles playful cables adds texture to the sleeves. Gaylia is Norse for jovial, and perfect for this everyday sweater knitted in Dale Garn Pure Eco Wool.

Sarya in Familien 12/2017

The Norwegian bimonthly magazine Familien, well known for their handcraft pages, has 40 extra pages with knitting, sewing, embroidery and crocheting in their next issue number 12/2017 out on Monday 12. June. On the cover at the bottom is my design Sarya, earlier self published on Ravelry in both English and Norwegian. It was brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne, worn by the beautiful model Alexandria Eissinger/Nordic Model Agency, with hair & make up by Sissel Fylling and statement jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, at my photoshoot at the Ekeberg Restaurant in Oslo. A beautiful lace pattern adorns the lower part of this jacket with overlapping fronts, while garter stitch rules on the top part. The stitch patterns are divided by a tuck and the jacket has identical hems. A deep elegant v-neck allows it to be worn loose creating waterfall fronts. Or you can close it with jewelry or a shawl pin for a more tailored look. The jacket is named Sarya; the night traveler hence knitted in the stunning Jagger Spun Zephyr Wool-Silk Lace, held double, because of its luster and drape.

Harding Cardigan Pattern Released

Today is 17th May and all of Norway is celebrating its Constitution Day. It is in short our National Day! To all of you Norwegians out there, and to anyone else who wants to join our celebration: Gratulerer med dagen/Happy Birthday! Michael and I will be watching the parade in our new home town of Ørje.

The Harding Cardigan was first published in the American magazine Interweave Knits Summer 2016. The pattern rights have now reverted back to me and the English pattern is available in my Ravelry store and on Loveknitting. The Norwegian pattern will be published in the magazine Familien at a later date. Biondo Scarf Pattern Released

My new design, Biondo Scarf, has been released in English on Ravelry and Loveknitting. The Norwegian pattern will be printed in Familien at a later date. The pattern has been test knitted and you can see the four completed ones on Ravelry. The reversible scarf, that can be used as a shawl was worn by Silje Andresen/Team Models, with hair & makeup by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, over Judith Bech’s divine silk skirt. The scene was brilliantly captured by Eivind Røhne at the National Museum – Architecture in late November last year.

Irina Pullover Pattern Released

The time has come to release the Irina Pullover Pattern, since the rights from Interweave has reverted to me. It was first printed in knit.wear Spring/Summer 2016 with stunning photos by Harper Point Photography, see my blogpost. My photoshoot team took the challenge and managed to create wonderful photos of it too, see my blogpost. Model Silje Andresen/Team Models, with hair & makeup by Sissel Fylling and jewellry by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wore the pullover with a long silk skirt with a train by Judith Bech Design, at the National Museum – Architecture and was brilliantly captured by photographer Eivind Røhne. The English pattern is available on Ravelry and shortly on Loveknitting while the Norwegian pattern will be printed at a later date in the magazine Familien. Here is the pattern introduction:

Note: One strand of each yarn is held together throughout.

Needles: 4 mm/US 6 circular needles (80 cm/32″ and 40 cm/16″). 4 mm/US 6 DPNs. Adjust needle size as needed to match gauge.

Notions: Stitch markers, cable needle, stitch holders, and yarn needle.

Gauge: 18 sts and 30 rnds in garter stitch using 1 strand of each yarn held together measures 10 cm/4″ square after blocking. 24-sts Cable panel using both yarns held together measures 12 cm/4.75″ across after blocking.

Notes: The body is worked in the round to the underarm, then the front and back are worked separately back and forth. The sleeves are worked in the round from the bottom up, with the sleeve cap worked flat.

Familien Kreativ 2017

The Norwegian spesial magazine Familien Kreativ 2017 is finally released. I am proud to have my design Cavallo on the cover in the left hand side corner in addition to Aylwen, Hanasa and Gaylia inside the magazine. The garments were brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne worn by Silje Andresen/Team Models with hair and makeup by Sissel Fylling, jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design and skirt by Judith Bech Design at National Museum – Architecture in November.

The designs are introduced as follows: Nice in Cables. Intricate cables and a tuck pattern adorn these four gorgeous designs by Linda Marveng.

Cavallo: A playful horseshoe cable adorns the body of this a-line sweater with a rounded hem. The Henley neck crowns the pullover and begins as a v-neck but ends a round neck, following the shape of the cable itself. The sleeves have been given symmetrical check patterns giving the appearance of cables. All parts ends in an I-cord bind off, and have garter stitches to mark the sides. Cavallo means horse in Italian and suits the horseshoe cable.  Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL). Yarn: Dale Garn, Pure Eco Wool. Needles: 4 mm/US 6.

Aylwen: A reversible tuck pattern with the wrong side out, and garter stitch edging adorn this elegant jacket. It has overlapping fronts which are joined into a short loop that can be worn once or twice around the neck or tied around the waist or as you like pinned together with a shawl pin or brooch. For a more flattering look it is slightly shaped at the waist and wider at the hip than at the bust. Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL). Yarn: Du Store Alpakka Baby Silk. Needles: 3.5 mm/US 4.

Hanasa: Named after the Norse godess with gorgeous hair tress remiscent of this cable. This a-line sweater has a cable vent on both the body and the sleeves. A high round collar finishes off the pullover. Why not add an extra cowl to feel extra cosy in. Hanasa is knitted in a divine silk and alpaca mixture for that lovely feel and sheen. Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL). Yarn: Du Store Alpakka Baby Silk. Needles: 3.5 mm/US 4.

Gaylia: A textural cross cable adorns this a-line sweater with vents. The cable ends in two smaller cables that continue along each side of the v-neck. A check pattern that resembles playful cables adds texture to the sleeves. Gaylia is Norse for jovial, and perfect for this everyday sweater knitted in Dale, Pure Eco Wool. Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL). Yarn: Dale Garn, Pure Eco Wool. Needles: 4 mm/US 6.
