Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020: Yaelle

What backdrop should we choose for my Yaelle design, made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, at the photoshoot at Bøler Church in May 2020? I instantly knew the answer to this: The rusty cor-ten wall panel with Bøler Kirke carved into it worked perfectly as a matching background to the Cognac coloured Tinde pelt wool yarn that Yaelle is knitted in. I told photographer Eivind Røhne that he did not need to include the letters “Bø” as in “Boo!” this time, since he did that back in October 2017 at our first photoshoot at the church. Instead Eivind included the brick wall too. Olivia Lindtein, with make-up & hair by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wore Yaelle with black pencil trouser and boots by Monica Stålvang. Olivia looked stunning in the oversized high-low pullover!

I wanted to have Yaelle photographed with a belt but also with the front folded  into a triangle held in place by a shawl pin. So not only the usual front, side and back view to photograph for Eivind this time. I also had to make sure we took a photo showing the pocket in the side.

Yaelle is a high-low pullover with an all over check pattern, swinging side panels and pockets. Named after Hebrew for the mountain goat, as it can take you everywhere. The pullover ends in a high loose turtle neck collar. Yaelle’s side panels are picked up and knitted after the side seams are done. The pockets are knitted at the same time as the front, including the pocket band and the lining. Wear Yaelle as you like; hanging loose or gathered with a belt or with a shawl pin at the front. The pullover is knitted in the pelt wool yarn Tinde with lustre from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Olivia is wearing size S with + 53 cm/20.75” ease and she stands 167 cm/5’6” tall. I have graded the pattern from size XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 128 cm to 192 cm/50.5 to 75.5 inches.

The pullover is worked back and forth in pieces from the bottom and up, then seamed. The side panel is picked up and knitted after the shoulder and side seams. The two vertical side pockets are worked at the same time as the front with extra stitches for the pocket band, with the lining attached horizontally at the top and bottom of the pocket. The collar is worked in the round.

Yaelle is knitted with a 21 stitches and 30 rows in Stockinette stitch gauge using 3.5 mm/US 4 measures 10 cm/4” square after blocking.

The pattern is currently under test knitting in my Ravelry group and will be released at the beginning of November as an individual pattern on both Ravelry and on LoveCrafts. This is one of my favourite set of photos from the photoshoot, as I love how all the colours came together! Thank you to my wonderful team!

Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020: Milana

The next set of photos I am going to show you is of Milana, knitted by Grete Jenssen – aka ma9 on Ravelry – in the divine Norne Yarn Merino Silk Yak DK. The hand dyed shade Volva has cream in it so I decided to style the pullover and the matching cowl with my cream coloured silk trousers. The gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with make-up & hair by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, looked stunning in the pullover. Milana is also brilliantly photographed outside the church hall in the shadow at Bøler Kirke late in May by Eivind Røhne.

Milana is currently being test knitted in my Ravelry group and will be released in both English and Norwegian on the 12th of October. My test knitters are enjoying knitting the DNA like cables found in the Charted Knitting Designs (third book) in the Barbara Walker’s Treasury of Knitting series. The Norwegian pattern will also be printed in the Norwegian magazine Familien at a later date. 

Eivind knew how much I appreciated the mirror images he captured at Mortensrud Church, so he went for it at Bøler Church too! Olivia is wearing size S with a bust circumference of 92 cm/36.25″, but I have graded it from size XS to 5XL with these measurements: 84 to 160 cm/33 to 63″.

Milana is knitted with a 20 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch using a 4 mm/US 6 needle measures 10 cm/4″ square after blocking gauge. You can see behind the scenes photo here: Behind the Scenes Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020.

Named after the sophisticated city of Milan in Italy, is this pullover with a high rib, creating a narrower waist. Two center cables travel towards the shoulder on the body with all their texture; Seed stitch, twisted stitch rib and cables. While a narrower matching cable adorn the sleeve with a panel of seed stitch. Milana is knitted in pieces for the ultimate fit and ends in a crew neck. A separate cowl can be worn as a crowning collar. The hand dyed DK – Merino/Silk/Yak yarn from Norne Yarn makes the cables pop and the texture shine in all its glory.

Leylak Pattern Released and KAL 2020

I am thrilled to present my Leylak pattern. It has been released on Ravelry – soon also on Love Crafts – in both English and Norwegian. My test knitters did a fantastic job correcting and improving the pattern and I look forward to present some of their projects at a later time. I knitted the sample in the divine Walk Collection Merino DK in the shade “Flieder” which also means “Lilac” in German, just as the pattern name does in Turkish in size Small but I have graded the pattern from sizes XS to 5XL. The sample was brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne, worn by the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make-up by Sissel Fylling. I also choose to use a detail of the Leylak for my discount offer for my KAL – Knit-A-Long – in my Ravelry group for any of my designs, see below.

Named after the Turkish leylak, the lilac tree, is this flowery cabled a-line cardigan with sidewings. The delicate cables, by Norah Gaughan, reminiscent of the lilac blossoms adorn the fronts, the back and the sleeves. Leylak ends in reverse stockinette stitch in a deep round neckline with a double neck- and buttonband. The jacket is knitted in the divine hand dyed Walk Collection Merino DK yarn, in pieces and seamed for the ultimate fit. To crown Leylak, make the cowl to act as a collar in excess yarn held together with the stunning Kid Mohair Lace.

Notes: The cardigan, knitted in Merino DK, is worked back and forth in separate pieces and seamed. The asymmetric lower body has extra width in each side – sidewing – that is bound off. Each front has 3 cm/1.25″ extra width at center front that is bound off at the same time as the wing, then joined with the buttonband at the end. Due to the asymmetrical cable pattern the number of purl stitches in the sides varies from back to front. The cowl, knitted in 1 strand of Merino DK held together with 1 strand of KidMohair Lace, is worked in the round.

O-Chem Tunic in Familien Høststrikk 2020

I am thrilled that my O-Chem Tunic, first published in English in Interweave Knits Winter 2019, is included in the Norwegian special magazine Familien Høststrikk 2020, that came out last Friday. On the cover is “Ut på tur” designed by Trine Lise Høyseth. My tunic, see below, is worn by the stunning Kaja Kvernbakken with hair & make-up by Sissel Fylling and captured by Eivind Røhne. Kaja is wearing size Medium with a 94 cm/37″ bust circumference, but the tunic is available in sizes XS to 2XL with 81 to 124 cm/32 to 49″ circumference.

The O-Chem Tunic is knitted in Tahki Stacy Charles Yarns, Alden, made of 50% merino wool, 25% alpaca and 25% acryl with 230 meters/250 yards on each 50 gram ball, using a 3.75 mm/US 5 needle and a 20 stitch and 30 rows gauge in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

The O-Chem Tunic features a striking central panel of hexagonal cables inspired by organic chemisty compounds. For visual balance with the three cables in the body, the sleeves have one main cable running down the arm, and all the cables in the sweater are framed with rope cables. The sweater sports a cozy standing collar and side vents in the rib at the bottom for a relaxed fit.

Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020: Skyla

The time has come to share the brilliant photos Eivind Røhne took of model Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make-up by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, at out second photoshoot at Bøler Kirke – a community church by HBA Arkitekter completed in 2011 – at the end of May. Olivia is wearing the pullover – or tee if you like – Skyla knitted in the hand dyed Dye Dye Done, Pure Sport, the new design first out in this series of pictures. Both the English and the Norwegian pattern is available on Ravelry and also on LoveCrafts. I choose to style this sweater and cowl with my cream coloured silk slacks. In times of order, it was the third garment we photographed because I wanted to photograph it outside by the window and we had to wait for the shadow to come around to the corner we wanted as the backdrop.

Kaja arrived at the church from her nearby home just in time for Olivia to borrow her Eo Ipso Armring and earrings. I had already tried my Monies statement jewellery, while waiting for Kaja, and Sissel was adjusting Olivia’s pony tail. The bracelet looked way too heavy on her slim wrist, in fact so heavy that it looked like the weight would topple her, Sissel joked. We had our first photoshoot at Bøler Church back in October 2017, and enjoyed being back at this perfect spot, especially since the Corona virus restrictions were still in place.

Skyla is a cabled a-line pullover with short sleeves, adorned with two central mirrored cables divided by twisted stitches. The small cables, created by Devorgilla, run towards each shoulder and make a v-shaped panel of reverse stockinette stitch at the center. The sweater ends in a casual wide rounded neck. To show off the stunning hand dyed Pure Sport yarn by Dye Dye Done, the sides are all in stockinette stitch. Skyla is knitted in pieces for the ultimate fit and has a cowl that can be worn as a collar.

The sample was perfectly knitted by sample knitter Grete Jenssen, aka ma9 on Ravelry, using a 3 mm/US 2.5 needle and a gauge of 25 sts and 32 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

Olivia is wearing the Skyla sample in size S with a bust circumference of 90 cm/35.5” with + 7 cm/2.75” ease. I have graded the pattern from sizes XS to 5XL with bust circumferences of 82 to 164 cm/32.5 to 64.5″. I loved seeing Skyla worn by Olivia and want to thank my amazing team for these photos!

Edia Pattern Released

The Edia test knit has come to an end and I am happy to release the pattern in my Ravelry store. The test knitters did a brilliant job improving and correcting the pattern. I will share some of their stunning versions here on my blog later. Edia was made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk and is knitted in their divine Tinde pelt wool yarn using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle with a 21 stitches and 30 rows measuring 10 cm/4″ gauge. Edia is an old Norwegian female name fitting for this relaxed sweater knitted in the gorgeous pelt wool yarn Tinde from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Behind the Scenes: Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020

Last Friday, I had a photoshoot at Bøler Church in Oslo with my brilliant team: Photographer Eivind Røhne, Model Olivia Lindtein, Hair & Make-up Artist Sissel Fylling, Jewellery Designer Kaja Gjedebo and Michael. It was a beautiful day that started out quite cool. Bøler Church in Oslo wished us welcome even during the Corona virus, as long as we used only the rooms we were allocated and made sure to clean all surfaces afterwards. We were met by the manager and the priest Dag Auli, who remembered us from last time we photographed in the church back in October 2017. He wanted to know how many garments we were photographing and where we had photographed since last time. The plan was to photograph seven new designs; four for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk plus Leylak; Skyla and Milana, and four old designs; Ravna – see above – Sculpted Frost, Aran Cuffs and Folded Cardigan. In the photo above you see Eivind securing the sun screen with sand bags and Sissel holding it while texting on her mobile.

Above is a photo I took in the morning when Michael and I were walking around the church looking for backdrops. You can spot me in the window taking the photo. We used this corner for two of the new designs: Skyla and Milana.

 Here we are testing out my Monies statement jewellery, while waiting for Kaja, and Sissel is adjusting Olivia’s pony tail. The bracelet looked way too heavy on her slim wrist, in fact so heavy that it looked like the weight would topple her, Sissel joked. Olivia is wearing Skyla, knitted in Dye Dye Done, Pure Sport while I am wearing my Regal Purple Jacket. I loved seeing my new designs worn by Olivia, as she gave them new life.

Michael took this photo of us while we were preparing to photograph the Folded Cardigan. Kaja is carrying a tray with the jewellery we had selected for the design. It was convenient that Kaja, who lives at Bøler, could join us on the photoshoot, as it meant I did not have to travel in to Oslo merely to visit her and borrow the jewellery, this time. After photographing this, we had lunch. I was relieved to find that Eckers was open and that they could deliver lunch with juices and smoothies to us. As planned it was delivered at 11 o’clock in good time for our lunch. After lunch we only had three more Hillesvåg designs to photograph. Below you see us planning the first of those; Caravay in Tinde pelt wool.

Euler in Familien 10/2020

I am thrilled to have my Euler Cardigan on the cover of the Norwegian magazine Familien 10/2020, the issue celebrates our Constitution Day; the 17th of May. The Euler Cardigan is worn by the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make-up by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, and photographed by Eivind Røhne. The design was made for the American digital magazine; knit.wear Wool Studio Vol. VI  published last May by Interweave. Euler Cardigan is knitted in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted made of 100% Superwash Merino wool with 206 meters/225 yards on each 113 gram skein in the shade 14ns Denim using a 4.5 mm/US 7 needle with a gauge of 20 stitches and 27 rows in Stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

Named after the accomplished and creative mathematician Leonhard Euler, this cardigan combines dropped stitches with bold cables along the front panels. The pieces are worked separately and seamed together for structure. The dramatic front panels hang loosely without a closure for an elegant but cozy sweater.

Olivia is wearing size S with a bust circumference of 85 cm/33.5″, but the pattern is graded in five more sizes up to a 132 m/52″ circumference.

Rebine Pattern Released

I have seen some wonderful test knitted version of my Rebine skirt design! You can see a number of them on the pattern page on Ravelry. The test knit is coming to an end and I am happy to release both the English and the Norwegian pattern in my Ravelry store. Soon it will also be available on Love Crafts. Rebine, an old Norwegian name, is a pencil skirt with an all over elegant cable pattern ending in a high waist. The skirt is shaped for the hip and the waist. Belt loops, inserted in each side seam, hold the skirt in place. Rebine is knitted in Tinde pelt wool by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Notes: The skirt is worked in pieces from the bottom and up. Make two belt straps to insert in the side seam. If you want to adjust the length of the skirt, remove up to 8 cm/3.25” or add an extra length before shaping the hip.

Jendine Pattern Released

The test knit of Jendine is over and the English pattern has been released in my Ravelry store. My brilliant test knitters corrected and improved the pattern in addition to making some wonderful version of the pullover! Above you see it worn by the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with make-up & hair styling by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, photographed by Eivind Røhne in Mortensrud Church back in November last year.  Yarn kits with either English or Norwegian pattern are available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Jendine is an a-line pullover with a panel of elegant cable ribbing at the center, longer rounded hem at the back and a shorter front. The v-neck splits the cable panel into two parts each framed with an I-cord. Jendine is an old historic Norwegian name that fitted this flowing pullover, that can be worn together with the Rebine skirt. Jendine is worked in the beautiful Tinde pelt wool by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Needles: 3.5 mm/US 4 circular needle (80 cm/32”).
3 mm/US 2.5 DPNs for I-cord at bottom of sleeve.
Adjust needle size as needed to match gauge.

Notions: Stitch markers (removable), cable needle, stitch holders, 3.5 mm/US 4 (E) crochet hook (for provisional cast on) and yarn needle.

Gauge: 21 sts and 30 rows in st st, after blocking measures 10 cm/4” square.
24 sts and 30 rows in Rib cab, after blocking measures 10 cm/4” square.

Notes: The pullover is worked in parts with garter stitch framing and seamed. The garter stitch framing begins about 8 rows later on the back than on the front to make space for the last increases. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large stitch number.
