Ravelry Group 8th Year Anniversary

My Ravelry group is now 8 years old! There are now more than 2100 members and my fear that only a few would join was needless. I am so pleased to have attracted so many wonderful knitters! It has been another thrilling year with many test knits of my English patterns, showing off of finished garments, discussions of different knitting techniques, chatting and Knit-A-Longs just to mention a few of the topics in this lovely group. I am delighted to have met so many new knitters. So it is time to celebrate that eight years has passed! How can I best do this? By organizing a draw in my group with 10 exciting prizes like yarn kits (2 sponsored by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk and 2 from my stash), e-books and pdf patterns from my Ravelry Store.

All you have to do is join my group on Ravelry, if you have not already done so, and post an answer to a simple question in the thread called: FREE YARN KITS – Group Anniversary Draw. I will use Random org to pick winners based on the number matching the response/posting on Monday 14th of June. Here are the top two prizes, and a good reason to join, see ravelry.com/groups/linda-marveng, in my opinion:

1. and 2. Prize: Choose one of these yarn kits from Hillesvåg and choose which size & colour you want (includes pattern in English as well as Norwegian): Yaelle or Bubala or Caravay or Neva. The yarn kits have been generously sponsored by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. See Tinde colours for Caravay and Yaelle, Sølje colours for Bubala and Neva.

These four designs, all made for yarn kits for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, were brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne at Bøler Church in May last year. The gorgeous model is Olivia Lindtein and her hair & make up are by Sissel Fylling, while her jewellery is by Kaja Gjedebo Design.

Yaelle Knitted by Siret

I am so thrilled to show you another stunning pullover knitted by Estonian test knitter Siret Sinimäe, aka kollane on Ravelry. Yaelle is modelled by her beautiful daughter Annika in the Koigi bog on the island of Saaremaa. Siret made size M and used the Brusca yarn by Retrosaria for the first time. The gauge was spot on – 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measures 10 cm/4″ square – with a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle. On her project page, Siret writes: “Linda’s new unique design requires a larger amount of yarn than a regular sweater, but Yaelle’s knitting is still not very complicated. The pockets require more attention, but Linda has added a video to the pattern for better understanding.”

Siret did two minor adjustments; reducing the neck opening and shortening the sleeves. Her neck opening was 2 cm/0.75″ wider than the pattern specified so Siret reduced the size of the needle (from a 3.5 mm/US 4 to 3.25 mm/US 3) on half of the collar height.

Take a look at the funky use of colour. Here is Siret’s idea: “I wanted to add some color to dark green. I managed to use this idea for pocket lining and for collar, side panels i-cord bind off. Some colored dots are on the right side of the back. The colors of the Zauberball Crazy yarn were just right to add an autumn reminder to my sweater”.

Siret held the Schoppel-Wolle Crazy yarn double for the contrast colour and used 250 meters/273 yards.

The last photo I will share is such a fun one! Thank you so much Siret and Annika!

The Yaelle pattern is available in sizes XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 128 to 192 cm/50.5 to 75.5. Yarn kits with the lovely Tinde pelt wool yarn with either an English or a Norwegian pattern are available from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, while the individual pattern is available in my Ravelry Store and on LoveCrafts.

Yaelle Knitted by Birgit Blumrich

Here is another stunning version of my design Yaelle, knitted by German test knitter Birgit, aka blumi1412 on Ravelry and blumi1412 alpakas on Instagram, together with two of her three Alpaca boys whose alpaca fleece spun into yarn she used to knit Yaelle. Yes, you will find the super soft and shiny Alpaca yarn in her Etsy shop called: Alpakawiese. Birgit took part in the test knit and made size Small using the recommended 3.5 mm/US 4 needles to get the 21 stitches and 30 rows gauge in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

The alpacas’ are adorable don’t you think. It was Birgit’s husband who took these amazing photos! In the photo at the top you can see the longer back and the side panel of Yaelle. The bottom photo shows the pullover worn with a belt! Thank you so much for making such a stunning version, Birgit! And for these lovely photos!

Yaelle is a high-low pullover with an all over check pattern, swinging side panels and pockets. Named after Hebrew for the mountain goat, as it can take you everywhere. The pullover ends in a high loose turtle neck collar. Yaelle’s side panels are picked up and knitted after the side seams are done. The pockets are knitted at the same time as the front, including the pocket band and the lining. Wear Yaelle as you like; hanging loose or gathered with a belt or with a shawl pin at the front. The pullover is knitted in the pelt wool yarn Tinde with lustre from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

The pullover is worked back and forth in pieces from the bottom and up, then seamed. The side panel is picked up and knitted after the shoulder and side seams. The two vertical side pockets are worked at the same time as the front with extra stitches for the pocket band, with the lining attached horizontally at the top and bottom of the pocket. The collar is worked in the round.

Yaelle comes in sizes XS to 5XL with a finished breast measurement of 128 to 192 cm/50.5 to 75.5″, with an intended ease: + 46-56 cm/18-22”. I look forward to showing more brilliant versions of Yaelle!

Yaelle Knitted by Eva Perstorp

I am delighted to show you the stunning Yaelle version that Swedish test knitter Eva Perstorp made in Klippans Yllefabrik 2-trådiga ullgarn in spotted dark grey! Eva’s husband took all these fabulous photos of her wearing Yaelle in size Small with a bust circumference of 136 cm/53.5″. She writes on her project page: “Autumn here I come! I have shorten both back and front 6 cm because I’m not as tall as Linda. I’m knitting the arms in the round to get a feeling for the length. I really love the texture of this knit.”

Here is a side view with the pocket, knitted at the same time as you work the front. Under notes I have written: The two vertical side pockets are worked at the same time as the front with extra stitches for the pocket band, with the lining attached horizontally at the top and bottom of the pocket.

The first finished photo that Eva shared is this one, taken while she was out walking in the forest. Yaelle is knitted using 3.5 mm/US 4 needles and 3 mm/US 2.5 needles for the pocket linings with a gauge of 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square. I have graded the pattern from sizes XS to 5XL with bust circumferences of 128 to 192 cm/50.5 to 75.5″.

Eva tested it out with some of her other clothes in her wardrobe, here with a skirt and high heels. I love all these photos! Thank you so much for test knitting Yaelle for me, Eva! I also want to thank your husband for taking these brilliant photos! You will find Eva as evaperstorp on Ravelry and as eva_lundin on Instagram.

The Yaelle pattern is available in both English and Norwegian to download from Ravelry and from LoveCrafts. Yarn kits with either an English or a Norwegian pattern is available from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. Here is my introduction to the pattern: Yaelle is a high-low pullover with an all over check pattern, swinging side panels and pockets.

Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020: Yaelle

What backdrop should we choose for my Yaelle design, made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, at the photoshoot at Bøler Church in May 2020? I instantly knew the answer to this: The rusty cor-ten wall panel with Bøler Kirke carved into it worked perfectly as a matching background to the Cognac coloured Tinde pelt wool yarn that Yaelle is knitted in. I told photographer Eivind Røhne that he did not need to include the letters “Bø” as in “Boo!” this time, since he did that back in October 2017 at our first photoshoot at the church. Instead Eivind included the brick wall too. Olivia Lindtein, with make-up & hair by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wore Yaelle with black pencil trouser and boots by Monica Stålvang. Olivia looked stunning in the oversized high-low pullover!

I wanted to have Yaelle photographed with a belt but also with the front folded  into a triangle held in place by a shawl pin. So not only the usual front, side and back view to photograph for Eivind this time. I also had to make sure we took a photo showing the pocket in the side.

Olivia is wearing size S with + 53 cm/20.75” ease and she stands 167 cm/5’6” tall. I have graded the pattern from size XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 128 cm to 192 cm/50.5 to 75.5 inches.

Yaelle is knitted with a 21 stitches and 30 rows in Stockinette stitch gauge using 3.5 mm/US 4 measures 10 cm/4” square after blocking.

The pattern is currently under test knitting in my Ravelry group and will be released at the beginning of November as an individual pattern on both Ravelry and on LoveCrafts. This is one of my favourite set of photos from the photoshoot, as I love how all the colours came together! Thank you to my wonderful team!

Yarn kits with a pattern either in English or Norwegian are available to order directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.
