Godi Pattern Released

The test knit of Godi, made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, has come to an end with some stunning versions as a result. My test knitters have corrected and improved the pattern, hence it has been released in English on Ravelry. The Norwegian pattern will be added shortly and both languages will be available on LoveCrafts too. Yarn kits with either an English or a Norwegian pattern can be bought directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. The design looked fantastic on model Aksa Mortensen, with make-up & hair by Nina Hjertaas Bull and ring by Kaja Gjedebo Design. Brilliant Photographer Eivind Røhne captured these photos at Hvalstrand Bad back in May last year. Continue reading

Keila Pattern Released

I have been waiting for the release of the Keila dress that I made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, so I am thrilled to tell you that the test knit is coming to an end. My brilliant test knitters corrected and improved the pattern. You can see a couple of the finished versions on the pattern page on Ravelry and below are photos of the different ways you can wear it. Here are some of the photos that Eivind Røhne took of the gorgeous model Aksa Mortensen wearing the Keila dress, made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, with make-up & hair styling by Nina Hjertaas Bull and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, at Hvalstrand Bad, back in May. The English pattern is available on Ravelry and the Norwegian one will be added shortly. You can also order a yarn kit directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk with either an English or a Norwegian pattern. Continue reading

Andor and Ovedine in Familien Vinterstrikk 2021

The next special knitting issue magazine by the Norwegian magazine Familien is out, it is called “Vinterstrikk/Winter Knits” and I am so fortunate to have two designs in the magazine. Both are knitted in the pelt wool yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk; The poncho Andor in the thicker Tinde and the shawl Ovedine in Sølje in two hand dyed shades by Værbitt. On the cover is “Snøfall” by Kari Hestnes.

Andor comes in one size with bust circumference of 212 cm/83.5” and a length of 72 cm/28.25″. Above you see it worn by the gorgeous Alexandria Eissinger captured by Eivind Røhne at Villa Malla by the Oslo Fjord, back in June 2016. The pattern in English, Japanese and Norwegian is available on Ravelry and in English on LoveCrafts.

A trendy oversized poncho defined by its pairs of ornamental cables on each wide shoulder part. The stockinette center part is crowned by a high neck collar. The poncho has side bands that can be closed with buttons. It is knitted flat in two parts with shoulder and neck shaping. Andor is the Norse element for Eagle and its wingspan appropriate for this poncho.

Ovedine comes in one size with a wingspan of 162 cm/64″, a widest point width of 42 cm/16.5″ and a narrowest point width of 12 cm/4.75″. Above you see it worn by the beautiful Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make up by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne at Mortensrud Church in November last year.

The shawl/wrap/scarf is knitted in two colours: Drageegg, Værbitt hand dyed on Sølje pelsull by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk (100% pelt wool, 100 g, 350 m/383 yds): 2 skeins: 497 m/544 yds and Lillebror, Værbitt hand dyed on Sølje pelsull: 1 skein; 315 m/344 yds.

Named after an old female name from Norway is this shawl with tucks, short rows and garter stitch stripes in two colors. The hem and one tuck made on the wrong side, in addition to the double I-cord bind off, make the shawl two-sided. Choose if you want to wear it as a shawl, or a wrap around your body or as a shawl collar. Ovedine is knitted in two gorgeous hand dyed shades by Værbitt on the pelt wool Sølje from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Ovedine is available in English and Norwegian on Ravelry and on LoveCrafts. The “Familien Vinterstrikk” magazine is available from selected grocery stores and newsagents but can also be ordered in Norway by sending an SMS with VS21 to 2205.

Sweater Dresses

A sweater dress makes you feel both cosy and comfortable. The key is to make the dress in a lighter yarn instead of a thicker one and to choose a bouncy wool or another fiber you like wearing that will also keep its shape. I admit that I have several in my wardrobe that I wear a lot. Hence it did take me a long time to actually design one as I wanted to make it extra special. Now, four dress designs later I can tell you the story of Sigyn, Aibell, Gyro and Keila – coming very soon.

My first and most popular dress is Sigyn made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in the fine yarn Sølje pelt wool, modelled by Emma Ross. The A-line silhouette becomes bodycon with the ribbing and has two central swinging cables that are divided, then moving towards the shoulder to make a v-neck at the front.

The second dress I designed was Aibell made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk this time in the slightly thicker yarn Tinde pelt wool, also modelled by Emma Ross. The balloon dress is shaped by cables introduced one at a time and can be worn as tunic or a minidress.

I did not have to appoint Beth Robinson, aka yarnbeth, as my Aibell Ambassador – she actually volunteered after she had made her first Aibell dress. Beth has made another two, so far..

The third one I designed, also for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, is made in two colours and in two yarns both Tinde pelt wool yarn for the center panel and Sølje for the sleeve panels: Gyro modelled by Olivia Lindtein. This time I wanted to try out an oversized dress with bat sleeves. The center cable panel crowns the dress and ends in a wide neck with an I-cord bind off.

Keila is the latest one and you can guess which yarn company it is made for. Yes, it is for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk knitted in their Sølje pelt wool and modelled by Aksa Mortensen. Honeycomb cables cover most of the dress except for the armhole and half the sleeves. You shape the skirt part into the high bodice part by changing the sizes of the cables.

Wear the dress as a balloon dress or a tunic by inserting a cord into the double hem. I am looking forward to the launch of the yarn kit and the test knit of this pattern beginning in November in my Ravelry group. All the dresses are brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne. If you are wondering if I am going to design any more dresses, I can reveal that the next one is already in the works! Enjoy the Sweater Season and your Sweater Dresses!

New Design: Bubala

The second design I made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk for this autumn is the pullover Bubala, the sample is brilliantly knitted by Grete Jenssen, aka ma9 on Ravelry, in the shade “støvet rosa”/Dusty Pink. Named Bubala Jewish for close to one’s heart is this cabled pullover with bobbles. A deep v-neck that can be worn on the front or on the back, split the cable into two single cables. The same single cable adorn the sleeve. Ribbing frame the cables in the sides and make the sweater figure hugging. The v-neck ends in an I-cord bind-off. Bubala is knitted in the bouncy Sølje pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. The yarn kit with either English or Norwegian pattern will be launched this autumn, while the English pattern will be test knitted in my Ravelry group beginning in Mid October before it is released.

The pullover is worked back and forth in separate pieces and seamed. The gauge is 24 stitches and 32 rows in stockinette stitch using a 3 mm/US 2.5 needle measures 10 cm/4″ square.

The half double crochet bobble (US. Half treble UK) is made using a crochet hook with an extra fastening trick that Grete discovered while making the bobbles. As a starting point we used the video made by designer Andrea Mowry.

I have made a video on how to make the bobbles which I will link to in the pattern. My patrons have early access to this video as well as behind the scenes photoshoot video, monthly newsletter, sneak peeks of new designs, Hillesvåg yarn discount, pattern discount and more rewards based on the membership level you choose. See www.patreon.com/lindamarveng.

In these photos taken by Michael at the beach in Ørje, you see me wearing size Small with a 92 cm/36″ bust circumference with 4 cm/1.5″ of positive ease. I have graded the pattern from size XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 85 cm to 153 cm/33.5 to 60″. The pullover is not fitted but the ribbing surrounding the cable will make it follow the lines of your body. Michael did want me to wait until the duck was in the photo, see the top two pictures.

I loved the cable pattern that ends in bobbles as soon as I saw it and discovered that I could easily divide it into two parts by ending the center cable to create a deep v-neck. That meant that the outer two cables could follow along the shape of the v-neck. In addition I could use a single cable on each sleeve as the whole panel would be too wide for the sleeve.

It was not until we photographed it, that I realised that I could easily wear it with the v-neck on the back instead of the front. The back neck is only slightly shaped, but since the front v-neck shaping is so deep, it works. Hence you can choose if you want to wear the v-neck at the front or the back.

Bubala looked divine on modell Olivia Lindtein at our photoshoot and I look forward to showing you the pictures that photographer Eivind Røhne captured.

Photoshoot at Mortensrud Church: Ovedine

Ovedine was designed for Værbitt’s Advents Calendar last December and have also been published in the issue 4/2019 of “På Pinnen“/On the Needle, a membership magazine for the Norsk Strikkeforbund/Norwegian Knitting Association, so you have seen some of these photos before but not all of them. Ovedine is knitted in two hand dyed colours, by Værbitt, on Sølje pelt wool by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. Above you see it worn as a scarf by the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make up by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne at Mortensrud Church in November last year. I love these serene photos and want to thank my amazing team for all their work!

I choose to style this shawl with a long black silk skirt and a top, but it can be worn with a more casual outfit as well. We photographed this upstairs in the church with a magic light coming through the large windows.

The shawl is made in one size, but can easily be adjusted if you prefer. The finished wingspan is 162 cm/64”, the width at widest point is 42 cm/16.5”  and the width at narrowest point is 12 cm/4.75”. Ovedine is knitted using 3 mm/US 2.5 needle for the garter stitch sections and 3.5 mm/US 4 for the tucks.

The divine turquoise colour is Drageegg, Værbitt hand dyed on Sølje pelsull by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk made of 100% pelt wool on 100 gram skeins with 350 m/383 yds on each skein. You need 2 skeins in this or your preferred main colour; 497 m/544 yds. Lillebror is the darker blue colour also hand dyed by Værbitt on Sølje pelsull. Only 1 skein in this or your preferred contrast colour is needed; 315 m/344 yds.

Ovedine is knitted with a looser than recommended gauge of 21 sts and 40 rows in garter stitch using 3 mm/US 2.5 needle measures 10 cm/4 square. 21 stitches and 32 rows in st st using 3.5 mm/US 4 needle measures 10 cm/4” square.

Both the Norwegian and English pattern is available from my Ravelry store and from Lovecrafts.

Last out in this series of photos from Mortensrud Church is the new ones of the Harding Cardigan coming next week.

Ravna Pattern Released

My Ravna was designed for the Norwegian magazine Bladet garn issue number 10/2019. I knitted the pullover in Sølje, pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk hand dyed by Værbitt, aka Laila Henriksen. Now, the test knit of the English pattern has come to an end and both the Norwegian and the English pattern have been released in my Ravelry store and very soon on Love Crafts. Since it was the last ever magazine, the rights returned to me at the beginning of the year, and I were fortunate enough to be able to use the photos that co-editor Solveig Jensen Engevold took of Ravna. My test knitters have made some brilliant versions and I will show you those at a later time. You can see a number of pullovers on the pattern page on Ravelry.

Ravna is an historic name from northern Norway, her charisma is given to this a-line pullover with a longer flowing shirt tail back. A cable medallion adorns the spine which is crowned by a high garter stitch collar. All the sides are marked by a strong garter stitch edge presence. Ravna is knitted in a divine hand dyed shade from Værbitt called Little Parsley based on a childrens’ rhyme on Sølje Pelsull from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Macha Jacket Pattern Released

The test knit of the Macha Jacket and Macha Cowl has come to an end and the patterns have been released. I was so excited to see the colour combination chosen by my test knitters, one of them even let her what she had in her yarn stash decide upon the colours. Soon I will show you more versions of Macha Jacket. Both the designs were made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in the Vilje Lamullgarn and in Sølje Pelsullgarn. On the pattern cover the jacket and the cable cowl is worn by Emma Ross, with make-up & hair by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, photographed by Eivind Røhne at the Oslofjord Museum in May.

Macha is the Celtic protectress in peace as well as the name of this heavily textured jacket with cable and tweed body and stranded colorwork sleeves. A tuck marks the end of the cable pattern, the beginning of both the tweed pattern and the deep v-neck shaping. The Macha body is worked in pieces but the sleeves are knitted in the round to the armhole in stranded colourwork with purl stitches and garter stitch stripes in three contrasting colors in both Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk Vilje Lamull and Sølje Pelsull. A cable cowl completes the jacket which can also be worn together with the Macha cowl.

Photoshoot at Oslofjord Museum: Macha Jacket & Macha Cowl

The time has come to show you the Hillesvåg designs professionally photographed at the Oslofjord Museum. First out is the Macha Jacket and Macha Cowl beautifully worn by Emma Ross, with make-up & hair by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, captured by Eivind Røhne. I chose to style the jacket with cream coloured silk slacks and high heeled cream shoes.

The background I wanted turned out to be dark, but the colour match was so perfect, especially the oars. The jacket is knitted in the shades Charcoal and Natural in the yarn Vilje Lamullgarn (yes: lambswool) and Lime in Sølje Pelsullgarn, all from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk using mainly 3 mm/US 2.5 needle but also, 2.5 mm/US 1.5 needle, 3.25 mm/US 3 needle and 3.5 mm/US 4 needle. The stockinette gauge is 24 stitches and 32 rows using 3 mm/US 2.5 needle measures 10 cm/4″ square.

Em is wearing size Small, but I have graded the pattern from size XS to 2XL with a bust circumference 86 to 126 cm/34 to 50″. Intended ease: + 5-7 cm/2-2.75″. Sample shown is 92 cm/36″ and worn with + 6 cm/2.25″ ease on model.

The jacket is worked in pieces and seamed. The stranded colorwork is worked mainly in stockinette stitch with a few purl stitches and the repeat ends in 6 rows of garter stitch worked on a smaller needle to stay in gauge. The cable cowl is worked in the round with ribbing on each side of cable panels. The tucks are made with 2 circular needles held parallel, hence the bottom part of the body is worked with circular needles for ease.

A yarn kit for the Macha Jacket is available in selected stores in Norway as well as online from Hillesvåg and the Macha Cowl will come soon. The English pattern is currently being test knitted in many different colours and will be released together with the Norwegian one at the end of the month.
