Here is my design Oráiste made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in their Ask combed wool yarn. My idea was to make a seamless dress with cables in the sides that follow the raglan decreases on the top. I chose a melange orange colour for the dress and asked sample knitter Grete Jenssen, aka ma9 on Ravelry, to make it for me using a 3.5 mm/US 4 circular needle and a 22 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4″ square. In the end, I decided to make a crew neckline and to knit a cowl that could also be used as a belt. The pattern is graded into sizes XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 99 to 175 cm/39 to 69″. I am wearing size S with 18 cm/7″ positive ease in these photos that Michael took in our front garden in December, while we still had plenty of snow. New Design: Jari
Inspired by an oversized pullover with a large cable panel and a bottom tuck is my new design Jari. I have used a bottom tuck earlier, but this time I combined it with both Double seed stitch band beneath it and a reverse stockinette stitch band above it. The result is Jari where I discovered a perfect cable panel in one of Barbara Walker’s stitch dictionaries, above the tuck with stockinette stitch in the sides as well as on the sleeves. On the back I decided to make only two central cables. The yarn I decided to use for this project is the Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, Ask – a combed wool yarn in the lovely shade called Melange Clear Apple Green. Continue reading
New Design in Progress for Spring 2022
I am preparing for my next photoshoot and will therefore begin to reveal the new designs I have been working on. First one out is one of the four new designs for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, this time knitted in their Ask yarn using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle in the stunning shade of “Melert klar eplegrønn”/Melange Clear Apple Green 6588. Above is the swatch I made for an oversized pullover with dropped shoulders and a standing high collar. A tuck divides the Double Seed stitch from the reverse stockinette stitches and the cable pattern, which I decided to mirror on the sweater. I will tell you more in a later post. Patent Poncho in Familien 04/19
For the second time around, the Patent Poncho has been featured in the Norwegian bi-weekly magazine Familien, I am pleased to say. The first time was in the special issue Familien Strikkebok that came out in August in 2013, then with photos taken by their in-house photographer Esten Borgos. These new photos were taken at Ingierstrand Bad, just outside of Oslo in May in 2017 by Eivind Røhne. Alexandria Eissinger, with hair & makeup by Jens J. Inspired by all the Fisherman’s rib patterns in fashion, I have designed a poncho in an oversized sweater style with longs splits in the side. The poncho is knitted in parts to create a contrast between the unstructured cable and the linear rib, called patent in Norwegian. The large splits on the sides make the poncho less voluminous. The sleeves are knitted long, to keep you warm on cold days. The poncho is knitted in a beautiful Camel Brown Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, Ask, a pure wool with plenty of bounce, using a 3 mm/US 2.5 knitting needles.
The poncho is one size with a 150 cm/59” bust circumference. The side and back view are also shown next to the pattern on the following two pages. Both the English and the Norwegian pattern is available from both Ravelry and from Loveknitting.
Autumn Symphony Accessories in På Pinnen 4/2018
Happy New Year, I hope it will be a healthy, prosperous and creative year for all of you! 2018 ended with a bang, at least that is what it felt like to me, since one; I again – for the second time – had a design on the cover of the Norwegian Knitting Association’s digital magazine “På Pinnen”/On the Needle and two; I hit number one of Interweave’s Top 5 most knitted patterns of 2018 with my Prescott Pullover. On the cover of “På Pinnen” is the accessories to my Autumn Symphony design. The brilliant photo is taken by Eivind Røhne showing Emma Ross with hair & makeup by Sissel Fylling, photographed at Bøler Church last autumn. The initial plan was to have a design by Norwegian designer Sigrun Gilje Hindal on the cover and include the pattern. I know this, because I am the editorial team (read: all of it), assisting editor Tove Fevang. This time I also had the job of interviewing Sigrun, who is Design Manager at the webshop Garnius – that specialise in yarn kits – and acknowledged for her brilliant use of bright colours, see Malou. All the rights to her patterns are with Garnius, hence Tove asked if I had an accessory pattern we could use and my design ended on the cover. I loved the idea and Tove picked this one from a small selection I sent her. Both the accessories (cowl and tweed belt) and the jacket is knitted in the lovely Ask from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk using 3.5 mm/US 4 and 3 mm/US 2 for the bands on the Tweed Cowl.
