Andor and Ovedine in Familien Vinterstrikk 2021

The next special knitting issue magazine by the Norwegian magazine Familien is out, it is called “Vinterstrikk/Winter Knits” and I am so fortunate to have two designs in the magazine. Both are knitted in the pelt wool yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk; The poncho Andor in the thicker Tinde and the shawl Ovedine in Sølje in two hand dyed shades by Værbitt. On the cover is “Snøfall” by Kari Hestnes.

Andor comes in one size with bust circumference of 212 cm/83.5” and a length of 72 cm/28.25″. Above you see it worn by the gorgeous Alexandria Eissinger captured by Eivind Røhne at Villa Malla by the Oslo Fjord, back in June 2016. The pattern in English, Japanese and Norwegian is available on Ravelry and in English on LoveCrafts.

A trendy oversized poncho defined by its pairs of ornamental cables on each wide shoulder part. The stockinette center part is crowned by a high neck collar. The poncho has side bands that can be closed with buttons. It is knitted flat in two parts with shoulder and neck shaping. Andor is the Norse element for Eagle and its wingspan appropriate for this poncho.

Ovedine comes in one size with a wingspan of 162 cm/64″, a widest point width of 42 cm/16.5″ and a narrowest point width of 12 cm/4.75″. Above you see it worn by the beautiful Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make up by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne at Mortensrud Church in November last year.

The shawl/wrap/scarf is knitted in two colours: Drageegg, Værbitt hand dyed on Sølje pelsull by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk (100% pelt wool, 100 g, 350 m/383 yds): 2 skeins: 497 m/544 yds and Lillebror, Værbitt hand dyed on Sølje pelsull: 1 skein; 315 m/344 yds.

Named after an old female name from Norway is this shawl with tucks, short rows and garter stitch stripes in two colors. The hem and one tuck made on the wrong side, in addition to the double I-cord bind off, make the shawl two-sided. Choose if you want to wear it as a shawl, or a wrap around your body or as a shawl collar. Ovedine is knitted in two gorgeous hand dyed shades by Værbitt on the pelt wool Sølje from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Ovedine is available in English and Norwegian on Ravelry and on LoveCrafts. The “Familien Vinterstrikk” magazine is available from selected grocery stores and newsagents but can also be ordered in Norway by sending an SMS with VS21 to 2205.

Mistale New Pattern Version

The vivid lime green in the pelt wool yarn Tinde from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk felt intoxicating. Cross cables with round cables in the middle framed by ribbing makes the sweater figure hugging. Mistale ends in a square neckband and you can choose if you want to wear it with the matching cowl.

Sweater Dresses

A sweater dress makes you feel both cosy and comfortable. The key is to make the dress in a lighter yarn instead of a thicker one and to choose a bouncy wool or another fiber you like wearing that will also keep its shape. I admit that I have several in my wardrobe that I wear a lot. Hence it did take me a long time to actually design one as I wanted to make it extra special. Now, four dress designs later I can tell you the story of Sigyn, Aibell, Gyro and Keila – coming very soon.

My first and most popular dress is Sigyn made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in the fine yarn Sølje pelt wool, modelled by Emma Ross. The A-line silhouette becomes bodycon with the ribbing and has two central swinging cables that are divided, then moving towards the shoulder to make a v-neck at the front.

The second dress I designed was Aibell made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk this time in the slightly thicker yarn Tinde pelt wool, also modelled by Emma Ross. The balloon dress is shaped by cables introduced one at a time and can be worn as tunic or a minidress.

I did not have to appoint Beth Robinson, aka yarnbeth, as my Aibell Ambassador – she actually volunteered after she had made her first Aibell dress. Beth has made another two, so far..

The third one I designed, also for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, is made in two colours and in two yarns both Tinde pelt wool yarn for the center panel and Sølje for the sleeve panels: Gyro modelled by Olivia Lindtein. This time I wanted to try out an oversized dress with bat sleeves. The center cable panel crowns the dress and ends in a wide neck with an I-cord bind off.

Keila is the latest one and you can guess which yarn company it is made for. Yes, it is for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk knitted in their Sølje pelt wool and modelled by Aksa Mortensen. Honeycomb cables cover most of the dress except for the armhole and half the sleeves. You shape the skirt part into the high bodice part by changing the sizes of the cables.

Wear the dress as a balloon dress or a tunic by inserting a cord into the double hem. I am looking forward to the launch of the yarn kit and the test knit of this pattern beginning in November in my Ravelry group. All the dresses are brilliantly photographed by Eivind Røhne. Cahal in Familien 20/2021

I am delighted to have my design Cahal, knitted in Tinde pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, featured in issue 20 of the Norwegian bi-monthly magazine Familien. This issue has 40 pages of knits and on the cover is the Elvira pullover designed by Tanja-Therese Grønneberg. However, my Cahal is on the front part of the handcraft section part of the magazine. Model Emma Ross, with make-up & hair by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, is wearing size Small with the “Wrong Side” out in the photo below, captured by Eivind Røhne. Yarn kits are available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Origami vest with reversible cables that folds into shape. Vents are made by leaving the seam open at the bottom. The horizontal seam draws a line across the shoulders ending in a curve at the armhole. You can wear the vest with both sides out by making a neat or flat seam. The name Cahal is Celtic for strong in battle.

The vest is knitted in two parts. The front is a square, while the back has 30.5 cm/12” extra body length that folds to the front at each shoulder to form the upper front and the neck opening. Cahal is knitted using 3.5 mm/US 4 needles and a 21 stitches and 30 rows gauge measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

The pattern is graded into three sizes: S (M/L, XL/2XL) with a bust circumference of 106.5 (117, 127) cm/42 (46, 50)”.  The length is: 68.5 (73.5, 78.5) cm/27 (29, 31)”.

Photoshoot at Hvalstrand Bad: Mistale

I promised to show you the new photos of Mistale, when I used a detail of one of them for the KAL pattern discount offer, so here they are. The figure hugging sweater with cowl – was knitted in the gorgeous lime pelt wool yarn and first published in the Norwegian magazine Familien Strikk back in August 2015. For these new photos, I decided to style the sweater with culottes of a Japanese brand and Evalina ankle boots by Monica Stålvang. Gorgeous Model Aksa Mortensen, with with make-up & hair by Nina Hjertaas Bull and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wore size Small with 6.5 cm/2.5″ positive ease. Brilliant Photographer Eivind Røhne captured these photos at Hvalstrand Bad back in May and they are the last ones from the shoot.

The vivid lime green in the stunning Tinde pelt wool yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk intoxicated me. I discovered that cross cables with round cables in the middle made a gorgeous texture. By framing the cables with a rib, the sweater becomes figure hugging and is the perfect accompaniment to your favourite jeans or trousers. It ends with a squarish narrow neckband and you can choose if you want to add the matching cowl.

The Sweater, both the sleeves and the body are worked in the round to the armhole and then worked back and forth in rows. The cowl is worked in the round as a long tube, and then the ends are joined together.

Mistale is knitted using 3.5 mm/US 4 needles and with a 21 stitches and 28 rows in stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4” square.

The sweater pattern is available in sizes XS to 2XL with a bust circumference from 89 to 129.5 cm/35 to 51“.

You have already seen a detail of this photo used in the KAL pattern discount – still valid for two more days (through September 2021). The digital pattern, available in both English and Norwegian, can be bought at Ravelry and at LoveCrafts. I brought a brightly coloured silk scarf, that Nina folded around Aksa’s head. Photoshoot at Hvalstrand Bad: Nipa

I am thrilled to show you the photos that Eivind Røhne took of the gorgeous model Aksa Mortensen wearing the Nipa sweater, made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, with make-up & hair styling by Nina Hjertaas Bull and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, at Hvalstrand Bad, back in May. We photographed this inside the restaurant due to the bright sunshine and the crowded beach. The yellow columns worked as a nice contrast to the dusty light lime colour of Tinde pelt wool yarn Nipa was knitted in. I chose to style it with black pencil trousers and Evalina Olive ankle boots by Monica Stålvang.

Nipa, Norse for peak, is a straight cabled pullover. A central intricate cable panel adorns the center of the body and the sleeves. Twisted stitches play in the cable and along the edge of the stockinette parts. Nipa is crowned with an I-cord decoration around its crew neck. The sweater is knit in pieces from the bottom up in the divine Tinde, a pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Aksa is wearing size Medium with 17 cm/6.75″ positive ease. I have graded the pattern from size XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 84 to 162 cm/33 to 63.75″.

Nipa is knitted using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle and with a gauge of 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square. The pullover is worked back and forth in pieces and seamed. The neckband is worked in the round. Stitches are picked up and knitted from the first round of the neckband for the I-cord bind off decoration.

Yarn kits with English or Norwegian pattern will be available early in September from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, while the single pattern will be released after test knitting set to begin 3rd of January in my Ravelry group.

Cian Sweater Knitted by Valeria

Valeria Patorra, aka nickknitterton, took part in the secret test knit of the Cian Sweater, first published in the Norwegian book “Norsk strikkedesign. Strikk din favoritt” – now available in English with the title “Knit Like A Norwegian” and as an individual pattern in my Ravelry Store and on LoveCrafts. Yes, you have actually seen this very sweater before, then modelled by Valeria’s youngest daughter (here), but I wanted to share these photos of Valeria herself taken on their holiday back in 2019 at Lønstrup in Denmark. Valeria knitted size Medium in the original yarn Tinde pelt wool in Light Denim Blue sponsored by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

On her project page from March 2019, Valeria writes: “I had been so happy about Linda’s invitation to a secret test knit of one her five designs in the upcoming book Norsk Strikkedesign. It contains the designs of six Norwegian designers and will be published in early October by Cappelen Damm. Thank you, dear Linda, for your trust and confidence! It was a great honour and pleasure for me!” I love how fabulous it looks, so thank you dear Valeria, for test knitting and all the fabulous photos! They seem so perfect to share in this summer holiday period.

Valeria continues: “And I’d like to say a big Thank You to the Norwegian yarn company Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk for its tremendous generosity to sponsor this test by gifting us a great amount of yarn. Tinde is a wonderful yarn, so lovely to knit with, light but warm at the same time.” She used the recommended needle size 3.5 mm/US 4 and obtained the pattern gauge of 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

The Cian Sweater pattern, including the Cian Cowl, is available in sizes XS to XXL, with a bust circumference of 84 to 126 cm/33 to 49.5″ in both English and Norwegian. Here is my introduction to the pattern:

Named Cian after the Irish God who rules over love magic, is this long A-line pullover. Three central Moss cables, framed by double seed stitch, adorn the center of the body which ends in a vent. Cian is crowned with an I-cord decoration around its crew neck. Wear the matching Cian Cowl as a loose collar. The sweater is knit in pieces from bottom up while the cowl sideways, both in the divine Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, Tinde Pelsull.

New Design: Nipa

The second new design made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk is Nipa, knitted in a dusty light lime colour. Nipa, Norse for peak, is a straight cabled pullover. A central intricate cable panel adorns the center of the body and the sleeves. Twisted stitches play in the cable and along the edge of the stockinette parts. Nipa is crowned with an I-cord decoration around its crew neck. The sweater is knit in pieces from the bottom up in the divine Tinde, a pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. Airin Hansen, made this beautiful sample for me in dusty light lime, while I was working on another new design. Michael photographed me at the outdoor theatre seating at the lock in Ørje.

The pullover is worked back and forth in pieces and seamed. The neckband is worked in the round. Stitches are picked up and knitted from the first round of the neckband for the I-cord bind off decoration.

Nipa is knitted using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle and with a gauge of 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

I have graded the pullover in sizes XS to 5XL, with a bust circumference of 84 cm to 162 cm/33 to 63.75″. In these photos you see me wearing size Medium with 12 cm/4.75″ positive ease. The stunning Silver rings I am wearing are from the Eo Ipso series by Kaja Gjedebo Design.

Yarn kits with English or Norwegian pattern will be available early in September from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, while the single pattern will be released after test knitting set to begin 3rd of January in my Ravelry group. Thia Pattern Released

The Thia pattern has been released, for quite a while now, in both English and Norwegian, it was first published in the Norwegian book “Norsk Strikkedesign. Strikk din favoritt”. The jacket is knitted in the divine Mikkel Rev/Michael the Fox (a nursery rhyme) hand dyed shade in red/orange/pink by Laila Henriksen of Værbitt on Tinde pelt wool yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. All my five designs are made in this yarn, but only Thia is in the hand dyed yarn.

Above and at the bottom are some of the new photos that were taken of the gorgeous Emma Ross with hair & make up by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, by Eivind Røhne at the Oslofjord Museum back in spring 2019. The pattern is available in English and Norwegian in my Ravelry Store and on LoveCrafts.

My designs; Cian Sweater, Cian Beret and Cian Cowl are on the cover of the English version book with the title “Knit Like a Norwegian”, that also contains Thia and the skirt/poncho Damara. Thia is a sweet fitted cardigan with a small extra rib above the waist, cables adorning the center framed by double seed stitch. The lower part is all in stockinette stitch to allow the beautiful hand-dyed Mikkel Rev on Tinde pelt wool by Værbitt shine with its colours and depth. Thia ends in a large collar that can be folded down.
