Mistale New Pattern Version

My old pattern Mistale has new photos of gorgeous Model Aksa Mortensen, with with make-up & hair by Nina Hjertaas Bull and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design. Aksa is wearing size Small with 6.5 cm/2.5″ positive ease. Brilliant Photographer Eivind Røhne captured these photos at Hvalstrand Bad back in May. I have also reviewed the pattern and done some minor graphic changes to it. The pattern is available in English and Norwegian on both Ravelry and on LoveCrafts.

The vivid lime green in the pelt wool yarn Tinde from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk felt intoxicating. Cross cables with round cables in the middle framed by ribbing makes the sweater figure hugging. Mistale ends in a square neckband and you can choose if you want to wear it with the matching cowl.

Needles: 3.5 mm/US 4 (80 cm/32”) circular needle for sweater body.

Photoshoot at Hvalstrand Bad: Mistale

I promised to show you the new photos of Mistale, when I used a detail of one of them for the KAL pattern discount offer, so here they are. The figure hugging sweater with cowl – was knitted in the gorgeous lime pelt wool yarn and first published in the Norwegian magazine Familien Strikk back in August 2015. For these new photos, I decided to style the sweater with culottes of a Japanese brand and Evalina ankle boots by Monica Stålvang. Gorgeous Model Aksa Mortensen, with with make-up & hair by Nina Hjertaas Bull and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wore size Small with 6.5 cm/2.5″ positive ease. Brilliant Photographer Eivind Røhne captured these photos at Hvalstrand Bad back in May and they are the last ones from the shoot.

The vivid lime green in the stunning Tinde pelt wool yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk intoxicated me. I discovered that cross cables with round cables in the middle made a gorgeous texture. By framing the cables with a rib, the sweater becomes figure hugging and is the perfect accompaniment to your favourite jeans or trousers. It ends with a squarish narrow neckband and you can choose if you want to add the matching cowl.

Mistale is knitted using 3.5 mm/US 4 needles and with a 21 stitches and 28 rows in stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4” square.

The sweater pattern is available in sizes XS to 2XL with a bust circumference from 89 to 129.5 cm/35 to 51“.

You have already seen a detail of this photo used in the KAL pattern discount – still valid for two more days (through September 2021). The digital pattern, available in both English and Norwegian, can be bought at Ravelry and at LoveCrafts. I brought a brightly coloured silk scarf, that Nina folded around Aksa’s head. I love these new photos of the Mistale so I would like to thank my awesome photoshoot crew!

KAL 2021

The sample is knitted in the bouncy Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, Tinde pelt wool in Lime using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle and a 21 stitches and 28 rows gauge to 10 cm/4″ square. Barcelona Knits 2019 Part 1

I can confirm that Barcelona Knits! Several people have asked me just that after I told them I was going to the Barcelona Knits Festival 2019! What a festival it has been, I have had a blast and must admit that I have never been to a festival so well organised as this one! The four behind the festival, running for the second time around, are: Anna, aka misswasabi81; Marta, aka tricotoseando; Eva, aka lalanalu and Kiara, aka lalanalu. You can see them at the front in the Instagram photo below. Above you see me photographed against their wall, wearing the Yellow Gold Pullover.

The venue was the World Trade Center in the harbour, I was teaching in the Mohair Classroom and on the television screen outside the door was the name of the workshop, my name and my photo. The view from the classroom was magnificent, just take a look above.

All participants to each workshop received a free ball from one of the sponsors of the festival. I on the other hand received a large box from one of them: Las Hidalgas, a goodie bag from the festival and presents from one of the attendees after my first workshop.

On Sunday 17th, about 1,5 hour after the market hall closed, a group photo was taken of the organisers, vendors and workshop holders. You would not believe how far knitters had travelled to come to this festival. They had come from the US, Peru, Taiwan, Scandinavia, Germany, the UK and Spain, just to mention a few of the nationalities present. I even met two Norwegians I knew from Stavanger at the airport in Oslo going to the same event as me.

I knew that my test knitter, Heidi Torres was coming from Sweden together with three of her friends, since she wrote to me and told me that only two of them got tickets for my workshops “Smart Knitting Techniques” since they were too late in booking. Heidi, aka Heidi197 on Ravelry, was very easy to spot since she wore my design Mistale in a gorgeous bright pink. Above you see us, and I am wearing my Ena. After my first workshop, there were many that wanted to take a photo with me and that was fun!

Michael and I flew in on the Friday afternoon, leaving our house very early in the morning. Barcelona Knits had booked our flights as well as the hotel for us, it was only about 10 minutes away from the venue. They also offered to organise a taxi from the airport, making it extremely easy for us. Arriving just after us was Susanne Sommer, aka SosuKnits, another workshop holder who flew in from Austria. We went sightseeing on Friday afternoon, before the festival began on Saturday morning at 9am. Just before the market hall opened, the queue to get it went around the inner courtyard, see above. For the second time, the festival hit another record with more than 2 000 visitors. The queue was still there, when I finished my first workshop, so I decided to visit the market hall on the Sunday instead.

My second workshop was “Perfect Fit” and not until 5pm. Straight after the workshop at 8pm, the “Tapas & Yarn Party” began. Michael had spent time in the backstage room (read: husband room) which had a fabulous supply of fruit, water, tea & coffee and snacks. Julie Dubreux, aka JulieKnitsInParis, who I first met at Bergen Strikkefestival; Isabell Kraemer, aka lilalu72, and Anna Maltz aka SweaterSpotter, who I first met at Vienna Wool & Design, all brought their husbands too. Above is one of the exciting yarns on offer in the market hall.

Eva introduced me to the yarn company Las Hidalgas, run by Alberto Diaz, who had asked to meet me and above you can see us talking. I discovered that one of the yarns he had showed me was not in the box I was given, so I came running back in on Sunday just after the market hall had closed. They had already packed down their stand but managed to find the ball I wanted!

The “Tapas & Yarn Party” on Saturday night was at a cool place called Ultramarinos at La Rambla only 10 minutes away from the World Trade Center. A smart move since I came straight from the second workshop to the party, which was limited to 200 people. Michael and I found seats next to the Norwegian yarn dyer Norne Yarn, who had a stand at the festival, and a lovely group of Spanish knitters & crocheters. The food was fabulous and never stopped coming, so many of us were too busy eating to actually knit! To be continued…

Mistale Knitted by Roberta Anderson

I wanted to share these photos of Italian Roberta Anderson’s Mistale. It is one of my test knits she has taken part in. Roberta knitted Mistale in size S and has added this note: “the yarn I used is a bit of a mistery… Labelled as Zegna Baruffa Guanaco from 1991, I don’t know if guanaco is the actual fibre, or just a brand name. It has longer fibres like alpaca, but feels rustic, so it could be a wool-alpaca blend? whatever it is, it’s perfect for this sweater!” Roberta used 3 strands of it and it is actually a straight green. The result is stunning and I love her scarf and green backdrop! Roberta’s Ravelry id is MiniRobe and her Ravatar is her hand outstretched with 3 miniature baby sets. She writes: “Then, a few years ago, I discovered miniature knitting for 1/12 scale dolls (quick to knit, and no risk of the wee cuties growing while I was knitting!). Now miniature knitting is a bit of a strain on my eyesight, so back to normal knitting…” So if you are on Ravelry, check out her projects. Thank you so much, Roberta!

Mistale Knitted by Sabine Brenner

I am thrilled to show you Sabine Brenner’s Mistale sweater. I met Sabine for the first time at Wollness Weekend outside Vienna in Austria last autumn. Previously we had only met online in my Ravelry group, where Sabine, aka Sabine010163, has taken part in several of my test knits! My German is close to none existent but I do understand quite a bit since Norwegian is a North Germanic language. Nevertheless I am unable to speak it. Our common friend Uschi who speaks better English than Sabine, acted as translator so we could be introduced. It was wonderful to meet her and to see so many of her test knits. I wanted to share with you her Mistale sweater in size 2XL which she knitted in String Theory Hand Dyed Merino DK in Laguna. The lovely yarn has a crisp stitch definition and a subtle semi-solid color. Sabine asked if she could change the neckline from the original squarish neck to a v-neck ending in a round neck. A modification she did brilliantly. Sabine was tired of taking selfies in front of the mirror and went to a photographer to obtain a few good photos for her project page. I am proud that she wanted to share them on the pattern page too. Below you see a photo of her back. Thank you so much, Sabine!

The Mistale pattern was first published in Norwegian in Familien Strikk last August, while the English pattern is available on Ravelry. The sweater is straight but the rib on each side of the cable panel make the sweater pull in and appear fitted. I am looking forward to showing you more amazing test knits of this sweater and other designs of mine.

Mistale Pattern Released

I have released the English pattern to Mistale, after a successful test knit in my Ravelry group. You can see a selection of them on the Mistale pattern page, and there are more to come. The Norwegian pattern was first printed in the special magazine Familien Strikk last August. Familien Photoshoot: Mistale

Anne Dorthe/Team Models looked absolutely stunning in my OXO cabled sweater; Mistale, with hair & make up by talented Sissel Fylling, Benedetta boots by Monica Stålvang and jewelry by Kaja Gjedebo, brilliantly captured by Eivind Røhne at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter. It was former editor of Made by Me, Mary-Ann Astrup’s idea to use the stone clad columns as a backdrop for a series of photographs. The location worked astonishingly well! Mistale – both the sweater and the cowl – is knitted in Hifa Norsk Pelsull in a gorgeous vivid lime green color using 3.5 mm/US 4 needles. The Norwegian pattern will be published in the special issue Familien Strikk out on Monday 24th August, while the English pattern will be test knitted in my group on Ravelry before its release.

The Sweater, both the sleeves and the body are worked in the round to the armhole and then worked back and forth in rows. The cowl is worked in the round as a long tube, and then the ends are joined together. You can wear it hanging loose as in the top photo or twice around the neck, showing off the rib on the backside of it. The earrings with the matching geometric shape are the statement Karakoram and the ring is called Hekla both in oxidized silver designed by Kaja Gjedebo.

Mistale is available in sizes XS to 2XL with a bust circumference of 89 to 129.5 cm/35 to 51″. Its predecessor Cable Round Sweater has less positive ease on the body and more on the sleeves, Mistale has been improved thanks to the response from my test knitters. I have scheduled all the autumn and winter test knits in my Ravelry group, so come on over and join us. The yarn has been kindly sponsored by Hifa.
