Photoshoot at Mortensrud Church November 2020: Hetta

I have been looking forward to showing you the photos of the beautiful Olivia Lindtein, with make up & hair and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wearing my new Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk design Hetta, captured by Eivind Røhne. I chose to style Hetta and the three other designs with a strap-less machine knitted long dress with a zipper at the back and ankleboots by Monica Stålvang. Hetta was photographed at the back of the church hall in Mortensrud Church in Oslo, back in November. Yarn kits with either an English or a Norwegian pattern are available from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

The pattern will be released in both English and Norwegian after the on-going test knit has been completed at the end of April.

Named Hetta, Norse for hood, is this oversized cozy pullover with a kangaroo pocket. An embossed leaf stitch adorns the hoodie, which begins in a broken rib. The stitch pattern continues on both parts of the hood which are knitted together at the top and seamed at the back, then attached around the neckline. The pocket is knitted onto the front at the end. Hetta is knitted in the stunning pelt and lambswool yarn mix from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, called Vidde.

The sample is size S, but I have graded the Hetta pattern from sizes XS to 5XL, with bust measurements from 129 to 186 cm/50.75 to 73.25″ with an intended ease: + 46-56 cm/18-22”. Olivia is wearing it with + 53 cm/20.75”of ease.

The pullover is worked back and forth from the bottom and up in pieces and then seamed. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large stitch number. The stitches for the beginning and end of front pocket are held on waste yarn. The pocket is knitted onto the front at the end. The hood is worked in two separate parts and joined with a 3-needle bind off, then seamed at the back and along neckline with a front overlap.

My sample knitter Airin Hansen knitted this for me with a gauge of 18 stitches and 24 rows in st st using 4.5 mm/US 7 needle measures 10 cm/4” square after blocking. The Vidde lamullgarn by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk is made of 100% wool (50% pelt wool and 50% lambswool) with 200 meters/220 yards on each 100 gram skein.

Photoshoot at Mortensrud Church November 2020: Cable Skirt

I have been waiting to show you the first set of photos we took at Mortensrud Church in Oslo, back in November 2020. The Cable Skirt is not a new design, but one that I made for my Norwegian knitting book “To rett, en vrang. Designstrikk” published by Cappelen Damm back in 2012. This time I made sure that we photographed it worn as a poncho in addition to as a skirt. I decided to style the skirt with a camel silk blouse and then with the matching trouser. Model Olivia Lindtein looked stunning in both the skirt and the poncho! Her hair & make-up is by Sissel Fylling, the jewellery is borrowed from Kaja Gjedebo Design and brilliant photographer Eivind Røhne captured it all!

The pattern has been revised and I have added two more sizes to it. My technical editor Barbara Khouri has made a schematic for it and edited the pattern for me. The Cable Skirt pattern will be released in my Ravelry Store tomorrow in both English and Norwegian.

A cabled skirt inspired by the late Alexander McQueen with a center braid cable framed by a tulip cable on each of the six panels. In the sides there are double seed stitches to allow the cables to add an extra dimension to the stitch pattern. Instead of elastic, a comfortable boot laces is inserted so that you can adjust the length by wearing it on your hips instead of waist or as a poncho, if you prefer. The Cable Skirt or Poncho is knitted in the lovely Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine with a small percentage of nylon so it will keep its shape.

The skirt is knitted using a 3 mm/US 2.5 needle and with a 28 stitch and 36 rows gauge in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square. The finished waist measurement for the smallest size is 126 cm/49.5″ and it will fit sizes XS to M, while the second size will fit sizes L to 2XL and the third size will fit sizes 3XL to 5XL. Olivia is wearing the smallest size with 62 cm/24.5″ positive ease.

The skirt is knitted in six panels with shaping for the waist and then sewn together. Boot laces is inserted into the waistband before it is folded over and seamed to the wrong side. Each panel has a centred Braid cable with a Tulip cable on each side, divided by reverse stocking stitch and edged by double seed stitch. If you only want to use the skirt as a poncho, make the smallest size.

Behind the Scenes: Photoshoot at Mortensrud Church November 2020

It was a dark and grey morning when we set off from Ørje to Mortensrud Church in Oslo on Friday 13th of November for our photoshoot. I had planned and booked Vardåsen Church in Asker, but due to stricter Corona restrictions they cancelled all arrangements including our photoshoot. Mortensrud Church, on the other hand, still have a few small events taking place and allowed us to have a photoshoot there. Model Olivia Lindtein was at the church, when we arrived. She had planned extra time this time as she was late last year, but so were we due to traffic chaos as a result of the extremely heavy snow. Photographer Eivind Røhne arrived next before Make-up and Hair Stylist Sissel Fylling turned up. Straight to work and it did not take long until Sissel asked Olivia if she could cut off about 7 cm/2.75″ of her hair at the back and shorten it around her face. Thankfully, Olivia agreed.

Eivind prepared his equipment, while I hang the new designs on the clothes rail, while Michael was making a Patreon Behind the Scenes Video. When I was done, Eivind and I had a walk around the church to decide which backdrops to use. We chose a couple of the same ones we used last November. Eivind suggested a small change to an old location and I went for three different backdrops. Three and not four since there was little good daylight due to the weather. Michael and Eivind moved the chairs so that we would have enough space to move around at the first backdrop.

I had eight new designs to be photographed, that I had finished a few days earlier, with a lot of help from sample knitters Grete Jenssen and Airin Hansen. In addition I chose two of my old designs, made for my Norwegian knitting book, “Fletteskjørt“/Cabled Skirt and “Japansk Vest“/Japanese Vest that I wanted new photos of. Four of those new designs are made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk and I decided to have those photographed first. Above you can see both Eivind and Michael (read: photographer number two) in action, photographing Olivia wearing Kyi; a skirt made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. If you wonder, yes, I have taken the top three photos with my mobile phone.

I was wearing my Gyda, knitted in Ask, a pure wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. When we left home, I was also wearing the lace cowl and the tweed belt that is part of the Gyda Cowl pattern, but since the heating was on in the church I had taken those accessories off. Above you see both Sissel and me adjusting Rym the ballet top that goes with Kyi the skirt on Olivia. Both are knitted in the new yarn called Vidde a mix of 50% Pelt wool and 50% Lambswool with 200 meters/220 yards on each 100 gram skeins using a 4.5 mm/US 7 needle.

I know I look very sceptical in this photo, but I did not feel it. My mascara is already under my eyes due to all the laughing. Sissel is quicker than me to adjust the clothing as well as the hair & make-up. So often her head ended up in one of Eivind’s photos, that we all had to laugh, you get the idea from the previous photo.

I love this photo of Olivia eating cake, she admitted that she always have extra space for cake. Just as last time I had ordered a delicious lunch with juices and smoothies from Eckers Café at Frogner in Oslo city center.

My mum lives at Mortensrud, only 5 minutes away from the church and she wanted to pop in to see us all in action. Sissel took this photo of us, standing in the staircase ready for the fifth design to be photographed just after our lunch. On the hanger is the Seneka skirt and a matching silk scarf I had brought.

Here is exactly what my mum and I could see of Olivia wearing the Cabled Skirt, taken at the very spot. We photographed the Seneka skirt next. I had not figured out how to use the silk scarf, but Sissel instantly knew that it should be in her hair. We both agreed that it softened the outfit and made it absolutely perfect.

Michael had a similar view to me, behind me in the staircase, so above you can see Olivia wearing Senna – cardigan – and Seneka – skirt here worn as a poncho – putting on those high healed shoes. Both are knitted in the divine hand dyed Neighborhood Fiber Co. Organic Studio Worsted yarn.

The last photo I will share is the view Sissel and I had of Olivia wearing Kaibara being photographed by Eivind upstairs on the narrow gantry. We were told off by Eivind for not standing straight enough. That meant that we were both in the photo. So we straightened up even further after we had stopped laughing. I had a wonderful day, which I am reliving as I select photos from the pdf that Eivind has sent me. Thank you to my magnificent team!

Edia Pattern Released

The Edia test knit has come to an end and I am happy to release the pattern in my Ravelry store. The test knitters did a brilliant job improving and correcting the pattern. I will share some of their stunning versions here on my blog later. Edia was made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk and is knitted in their divine Tinde pelt wool yarn using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle with a 21 stitches and 30 rows measuring 10 cm/4″ gauge. Edia is an oversized sweater with a central cable panel, vent in the sides and a crew neck crowned by an I-cord bind off. The pullover has dropped shoulders and simple cables on the sleeves. Edia is an old Norwegian female name fitting for this relaxed sweater knitted in the gorgeous pelt wool yarn Tinde from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Grian Pattern Released

The test knit of Grian is over and the English pattern, in sizes XS to 5XL, has been released in my Ravelry store. My brilliant test knitters corrected and improved the pattern in addition to making some wonderful versions of the pullover! Above you see it worn by the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with make-up & hair styling by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, photographed by Eivind Røhne in Mortensrud Church back in November last year.

Named after the Faery Goddess from County Tipperary, is this pullover with heavy cabled texture. Grian means sunny, from her days as a regional sun deity, perfectly suited for this pullover. Honeycomb and stag horn cables adorn the body, while only honeycomb rule on the sleeves. Grian is slightly fitted with a crew neck and has a high cowl as a collar. The Fibre Co. Cumbria makes the cables pop and allow the texture to shine in all its glory.

Rebine Pattern Released

I have seen some wonderful test knitted version of my Rebine skirt design! You can see a number of them on the pattern page on Ravelry. The test knit is coming to an end and I am happy to release both the English and the Norwegian pattern in my Ravelry store. Soon it will also be available on Love Crafts. Rebine, an old Norwegian name, is a pencil skirt with an all over elegant cable pattern ending in a high waist. The skirt is shaped for the hip and the waist. Belt loops, inserted in each side seam, hold the skirt in place. Rebine is knitted in Tinde pelt wool by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Jendine Pattern Released

The test knit of Jendine is over and the English pattern has been released in my Ravelry store. My brilliant test knitters corrected and improved the pattern in addition to making some wonderful version of the pullover! Jendine is an a-line pullover with a panel of elegant cable ribbing at the center, longer rounded hem at the back and a shorter front. The v-neck splits the cable panel into two parts each framed with an I-cord. Jendine is an old historic Norwegian name that fitted this flowing pullover, that can be worn together with the Rebine skirt. Jendine is worked in the beautiful Tinde pelt wool by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Gyro Yarn Kit

I am thrilled to let you know that my design Gyro is now available as a yarn kit with Norwegian or English pattern directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. Above you see the cover that they made showing the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make-up by Erica Poppe and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, wearing the dress as a tunic captured by Eivind Røhne in Mortensrud Church last November.

Gyro is an oversized dress with bat sleeves knitted in two yarn thicknesses and colours. The center cable panel crowns the dress and ends in a wide neck with an I-cord bind off. Gyro is an old Norwegian female name, well suited to this dress or tunic made in pieces and sewn or crochet together with a garter stitch sleeve band. The dress is knitted in the divine pelt wool yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk; The thicker Tinde for the cable panel and the thinner Sølje for the side parts.

The dress is available in sizes XS to 3XL with a wingspan of 119 to 137/46.75 to 54“,
divided into: Sleevepart/shoulder on each side: 47.5 to 56.5 cm/18.75 to 22.25” and neck: 24 cm/9.5”. The length is from 89 to 95 cm/35 to 37.5”. Olivia wears size S; 122 cm/48” wingspan and has an 83 cm/32.75” bust circumference and stands 167 cm/5’6” tall.

As for construction: The dress is worked in pieces from the bottom up and seamed. You can easily adjust the length of the dress if you prefer, for instance by shortening (or lengthening) it with one or half a cable pattern repeat 12 cm/4.75” or 6 cm/2.25” and work less rows in between the increases.

Notes: The dress is worked in pieces from the bottom up and seamed. You can easily adjust the length of the dress if you prefer, for instance by shortening (or lengthening) it with one or half a cable pattern repeat 12 cm/4.75” or 6 cm/2.25” and work less rows in between the increases.

Photoshoot at Mortensrud Church: Harding Cardigan

Last in the series of photos brilliantly taken by Eivind Røhne at our photoshoot at Mortensrud Church in Oslo, is the Harding Cardigan made for Interweave Knits Summer 2016. We have photographed this one before at the Architectural Museum, then worn by a model who work for a model agency that allows the photos used only for a specified list of websites and magazines. My list, written back in early 2017, did not include Deep South Fibers who now sell my printed patterns, hence I needed new photos or pay an extra fee to use the old photos. Harding Cardigan is knitted the shade Foothills in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter using a 4.5 mm/US 7 and looked stunning on the beautiful Olivia Lindtein. Erica Poppe did her hair & make up, while her jewellery is borrowed from Kaja Gjedebo Design.

Eivind photographed Olivia wearing the cardigan with a black silk skirt, upstairs in the church. Here is my introduction to the pattern: An allover telescope lattice gives this long, straight cardigan a textural feel. A cabled rib-cord collar adds a modern look to the Harding Cardigan. Wear it open or close it with a shawl pin or belt.

The back, fronts, and collar are worked back and forth in separate pieces, the sleeves are worked in the round, and the garment is seamed together. Olivia is wearing size S with a finished bust circumference of 90, 96.5, 105.5, 114, 123) cm/35.5“ with 7 cm/2.75″ of positive ease. I have graded the pattern from size XS to 2XL with a bust circumference of 85 to 123 cm/33.5 to 48.5″.

The Brooklyn Tweed Shelter yarn is made of 100% wool and comes in 50 gram skeins with 128 meters/140 yards. I knitted the sample with a gauge of 20 stitches and 25 rows in stockinette stitch using 4.5 mm/US 7 measuring 10 cm/4” square.
